CULTIVATOR-STANDARD CLAMP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,536, dated January 17, 1882.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARLOW O. STAI-IL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ballville township, in the county of Sand usky and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cultivator-Standard Clamps; and I hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a view of the device complete and attached to a plow-beam. Fig. 2 is a view of the plate attached to the under side of the beam, and Fig. 3 is a view of the upper plate and the set-screw for holding the standard.

The object of my improvement is to provide a clamp or coupling, for securing a standard or cultivator-tooth to a plow-beam or drag-bar. which may be easily applied to any beam and by simple and convenient means will provide for the standard a vertical adjustment, a forward and back adjustment of the pitch, and

' also the lateral inclination ofthe standard.

, The coupling is composed of two plates, C

and D, preferably made of malleable cast iron; or they may, if desired, be cut or stamped from metal plates. In the upper plate, C, is made an opening to exactly fit the standard or tooth A, and on one side of this aperture is placed a 0 set-screw, E, which is intended to bear against the standard A and hold it. firmly at any desired point of vertical adjustment. This plate is also provided with two longitudinal slots, F F, to receive the bolts G G, which clamp it to the beam 13, and the purpose of which will he hereinafter described. The under plate, D,

has also an aperture to fit the standard A, and has two lateral or cross slots, H H, to receive the fastening-bolts G G.

It will be evident that if the nuts on the bolts G G are loosened and the upper plate,

size of beam, and that changes or adjustments are easily effected.

I use p:eferably with this clamp a hollow metal post, formed of steel plate bent into proper shape, the whole forming a light and simple means of adjustably attaching a standard or shovel to a beam or drag-bar. It is evident, however, that any form of post or standard may be used, and that the apertures in the plates must be made to conform to the shape of the standard.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure byLetters Patent of the United States,

l. The cultivator-standard clamp or coupling composed of the sliding plate 0, encircling the standard A and provided with the longitudinal slots F F and the set-screw E, the plate D, also having aperture to fit the standard A and having cross-slots H H, the bolts G G, and the beam B, as shown and described.

2. The combination of the plates C and D, slotted and perforated as described, the hollow standard A, the set-screw E, the beam B, and the bolts G G, as and for the purposes set forth.
