, UNITED STATES PATENT CFFICE.
\VILLIAM M. DARROW, OF LEE CENTRE, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF I TO M. DEDRIGK, OF SAME PLACE.
CULTlVATOR-TQOTH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 369,167, dated August 30, 1887.
Application filed June 27,1887. Serial No. 242,627. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. DARROW, of Lee Centre, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Cultivator- Teeth and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable cultivator or barrow teeth; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction of a combined supplemental tooth and retaining shoe or box, whereby the said supplemental tooth can be readily attached toor removed from the tooth Of a spring-tooth cultivator or harrow, all as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure l is a rear perspective view showing my device for securinga supplemental tooth tov an ordinary cultivator-tooth. Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same on line 00 m in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical central section.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents an ordinary cultivator or harrow tooth, which is secured to the frame-work in any suitable manner.
13 represents what is known as the Wilsin Adjustable Tooth, which is designed to be removably secured to the tooth A.
0 represents my retaining shoe or box, the inner face of which is recessed. to receive the point of the tooth A, and is of such a shape that its edges will come in close proximity to the face of the supplemental tooth B. The lower end of the shoe or box is provided with a bolt-,
hole, which comes coincident with a similar hole in the tooth B, and through these coincident holes a proper bolt, D, is secured for firmly attaching the two parts together at that point. The upper end of the shoe is provided with a flange, a, which is designed to prevent the compression-clamp E from slipping off the shoe. This compressionclamp embraces the upper ends of the shoe and supplemental tooth, as shown, and when in place and properly adj usted by means of its screw-bolt F the shoe and supplemental tooth are firmly clamped together, embracing the tooth A between them.
-VVith my device it will readily be seen that a supplemental tooth can be quickly adjusted to place or removed without necessitating the employment of a skilled artisan.
I do not claim, broadly, the combination, with a cultivator or harrow tooth, of asupplemental tooth and means for detachably securing them together, for I am aware that such is notnew with me.
-What Iclaim as my invention is The combination, with the tooth B, having at one end a hole, the shoe 0, recessed upon its inner face and provided with a hole coin-- cident with the hole in the tooth, a bolt, D, passed through said holes, the tooth A, con: fined between said shoe and tooth within the recess in the former, and the clamp E,embracing said shoe and teeth and provided with adjusting screw-bolt F, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
W. M. DARROW.
