Description

(No Model.)
P. KETTENRING.
PLOW ATTACHMENT.
Patented June 13,
NITED STATES PETER KETTENRING, OF DEFIANOE, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE DEFIANGE MACHINE WORKS, OF SAME PLACE.
PLOW ATTACH M ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,317, dated June 13, 1882.
Application filed Marcl123,1882. (No model.)
I 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, PETER KETTENRING, of Defiance, county of Defiance, and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Plow Attachments; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of this invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in that class of attachments for plows by means of which colters or jointers are secured thereto and so arranged as to allow of a lateral, longitudinal, and vertical adjustment, as well as an adjustment in linewith the landside, without the necessity of lowering the beam; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction and operation of the clamp, as more fully hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my attachment upon a plow beam carrying the jointer. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detached perspective view of my improved jointer attachment.
In the accompanying drawings, Arepresents a plate of cast metal provided with the slots a, and with a prolongation, b, to the rear. Cast and integral with this plate is the vertical plate B, preferably rectangular in form and with a rectangular opening, 0, vertical through the same, of sufficient size to receive the shank of a colter or jointer, G. The plate A is designed to rest against the under side of the beam D, and be secured thereto by means of the bolts E and bar F, arranged to embrace the beam, While the socketed plate B, when the attachment is in place, slightly inclines to the rear of a vertical line, and the shank of the colter orjointer is secured in the socket in the plate B, so that it may be adjusted vertically or removed to give place to another implement by means of a wedge, d, set-screw, or other known device.
The slots to allow of an adjustment laterally in line with'the point of landside, and the adjustability of the clamp allows an adjustment forward or back, the colter or jointer being vertically adjustable in its socket, as already described, and another adjustment is had by loosening the bolts and throwing one end of the plate forward or back on the beam, as may be desired.
G is a vertical flange-support to the plate A, and integral therewith and with the socket plate B.
I am aware that it is not new to secure colters, &c., to plows by means of sockets ad justably secured to the plow-beam, and I do not broadly claim such construction.
What I claim is- The combination, with the plow-beam D, of the plate A, provided with transverse slots a, adapted to receive a bolt on each side of the plow-beam, and having a rear extension, I), to fit under the beam, and the socket-plate B, formed integral with and at an angle to the plate B, and strengthened by a brace, Gr, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
PETER KETTENBING.
