Application led October 25, 1910. Serial No. 588,984.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES D. DELLIN- GER, a citizen of the United States' of America, residing at Enterprise, in the county of Haskell and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a speciication.
This invention relates to plows, and the particular object of the invention is to provide simple and eicient means whereby the plow may be guided slantingly or otherwise at the will of the operator.
With this and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention it better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawing,-Figure 1 is a side elevation of a plow constructed in accordance with the invention, with dotted lines indicating a different position of the parts. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the plow as seen from the opposite side.
Corresponding partsV in both figures of the drawing are denoted by like characters of reference.
The plow stock or standard l, which is of the ordinary well known split or bifurcated type, is secured upon the beam 2 by means of clamping bolts 3, 4 located, respectively, below and above the beam. The plow blade 5, which may be of any well known pattern, is adjustably supported upon the lower end of the stock or standard. The latter is pro vided with a transverse bolt 6 from which a brace 7 extends to the rear end of the beam. The beam is provided with a draft clevis 8 and with handles 9.
Mounted upon and extending rearwardly from the bolt 6 whereby it is connected with the standard 1 is an angle bar A having an upwardly inclined front portion 10 and an approximately horizontal rear portion 11, the latter being provided at its rear end with an upstanding arm 12 having a slot 13. Pivoted upon the horizontal portion 11 of the angle bar by means of a bolt 14 is a blade 15 which is adapted to enter the ground to any desired depth, which may be determined by means of a clamping bolt 16 engaging the slot 13 whereby the blade or heel plate may be conveniently set and adjusted. A brace bar 17, which is shaped to conform with the angle bar A, is mounted upon the bolts 6 and 14 to reinforce the construction.
An adjusting bar B is pivoted upon the bolt 14, and the upper end of said adjusting bar is bent to extend forwardly beneath the plow beam 2, said forwardly bent portion being provided with a slot 18 engaging the clamp bolt 3, whereby the adjusting bar may be moved to effect vertical adjustment of the angle bar A.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that the angle bar A may be set or adjusted to ga e the depth of the plow and to regulate t e slant at which the plow blade shall be permitted to engage the ground. The heel plate, which is independently adjustable, serves as a rudder or guiding device for the plow.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. In a plow, a beam, a standard comprising spaced side members, clamping bolts connecting the side members above and below the beam to secure the standard thereupon, a plow blade mounted upon the standard, abolt extending through the side members of the standard above the plow blade, an angle bar, and a brace member mounted upon said bolt, the upper' end of the brace member being secured upon the beam, and said angle bar having an inclined front portion, an approximately horizontal rear portion, and an upstanding slotted arm at its rear end, a bolt extending through the horizontal portion of the angle bar, a heel plate pivoted upon said bolt, a brace member having its lower end mounted upon the pivotal bolt of the heel plate and provided at its upper end with a slot engaging the clamping bolt connecting the sic e members of the standard beneath the beam, and a bolt adjustably connecting the heel plate with the upstandino slotted arm at the rear end of the angle oar.
