JOSEF KOVACS, OF MOUNT CARMEL, PENNSYLVANIA;
WRENCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 14, 1911. Serial No. 654,713.l
To all whom t may concern.' v Be it known that I, JOSEF Kovacs, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Mount Carmel, in the county of Northum! jaw thereof# A` fuitherV object of this invention is to j provide a quick actingnut wrench that is sim le in construction, durable and highly eiiieient 'for' the purposes for which it is intended.
I attain the above objects bya mechanical construction that will be hereinafter s ecifically described and then claimed, an reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein i Figure l is 'a side elevation of the wrench, Fig. 2 is 'a 'vertical sectional View of the same partly broken away, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the wrench.
A wrench in accordance with this invention comprises a shank l rectangular in cross section .and havin the outer 4end thereof rovided with a Xed jaw 2. The inner en of the shank .terminates in a c linirical handle 3 that presents a shoul er 4 to limit the movement of the'adjustablejaw.
of the wrench; The shank 1 is provided with a longitudinal cylindricalbore 5eX- tending from one end thereof to the opposite end. Rotatably mounted in the bore 5`is a rod 6 having a spiral groove 7 fora part of its len th.; The outer end of the rod 6 is reduce to provide a screw threaded stem 8. and mounted upon said stem is a nut 9 having a head 10 engaging the outer side o fftlie 'aw 2. The inner end of therod 6 hasn and .piece 11 engagin the end of. the handle3. The hand piece '11 coperates with the head 10 of the nut 9 in retaining the rod 6 within the shank 1.
Sli-dably mounted upon the shank 1 is an adjustable jaw 12 having a vertical opening Patented J an. 16,1912.
13 providing clearance for said shank. The
and the inner ends with pins 17. The pins 17 extend through longitudinal slotsl1f8 provided therefor in the shank 1, said pinsenf' gaging in the spiral groove 7 of the6. The plugs 15 are prevented from rotating within the openings 14 by transverse pins or screws 19 extending transverselyl 0f the adjustable jaw 12 and through the lugs 15.
By rotating the hand piece 11, t e rod 6 is rot-ated within the shank 1 and throug'h.-,lA
the medium of .the pins 17, the adjustable jaw 12 is moved upon the shank 1.
" From the foregoing it will be observed;
that the parts of thewrench can be easily.
and quickly assembled and that the adjustin mechanism is protected and not liable to injury due to any rough usage of the wrench.
1. A wrench comprising a shank having a longitudinal bore formed therein, a fixed jaw carried by the outer end of said shanki a rod rotatably mounted in the bore of sai shank and having a spiral roove form therein, a hand piece *carrie by the inner end of said rod, a nut carried by'the outer end of said rod and retaining said rod within the bore of said shank, an adjustable jaw slidably mounted upon said shank, plugs mounted in said j aw, and pins carried by the inner ends of said plugs and extending through slots .provided therefor in sai shank with said pins engaging in the spiral oove of said rod whereby said adjustable jaw will be shifted upon said shank when said rod is rotated.
2. A Wrench of the type described compricing a shank, a fixed jaw carried by the outerend thereof, said shank havin alongitudinal bore formed therein, a ro rotata- `bly mounted in the bore of said shank and ing said rod Within the bore of said shank, 10 havingeJ spiral groove, e hand piece carried and means carried by said adjustable ja-W by the innei1 end of said rod, an adjustable for deaohably hoiding the pins thereof.
jew slidably mounted upon said shank, in- In testimony whereof I ax my signature Wardly projecting pins supported by said in the presence of two Witnesses. jaw and extending through slots provided JGSEF KOVACS. therefor in seid shank with said pins en- `Witnesses:
. gaging in the groove of said rod, means en- FRANK SABO,
