Be it known that I, ARDo HERING, a c1tizen of the United States, and residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stands for supporting and suspending articles of wearlng apparel and has for its object to provlde in a manner as hereinafter set forth a stand of such class which is capable of supportlng as well as suspending a plurality of articles of wearing apparel.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a stand for the purpose set forth which is extremely simple in its construction, quickly assembled, strong, durable, attractive in appearance, convenient in its use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically ,described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views: Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View of a stand in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a section on line X--X broken away, and, Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view broken away of a modification.
A stand in accordance with this invention is constructed of any suitable material preferably metal and comprises a body-portion, a plurality of garment supporting and suspending members, and a plurality of supporting legs. 7
As shown in Fig. 1, the body-portion consists of a vertically-disposed hollow cylindrical member 1, open at each end and having its upper end off-set as at 2, 3, 4 and 5 to provide a plurality of seats 6. Mounted in the upper end of the bodyportion 1 and bent to extend in the seats 6 and overhang the upper end of the body-portion 1 is a plurality of combined garment supporting and suspending members. Each member consists of a bar of material bent upon itself to provide a supporting portion 7 which extends within the body-portion 1 and has the upper part thereof snugly engaging in the seat 6. The supporting portion 7 is substantially V- shaped in contour and each end thereof terminates in a semi-circular loop 8 constituting a support for a hat and each of said loops 8 terminate in a suspension arm 9 which merges at its lower end in a hook 10 for suspending a garment. As shown two combined garment supporting and suspending members are employed and they are disposed at right angles with respect to each other within the upper end of the body portion 1 and one of said members has its supporting portion arranged above the supporting portion of the other of the members.
In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the
body-portion of the stand which is indicated by the reference character 11 is not provided with the off-set portions as is the body-portion 1 of the form of stand shown in Fig. 1. The combined garment supporting and suspending members in Fig. 3 are indicated by the reference character 12.
- The supporting legs for the body portion 1 each consists of an inverted V-shaped bar 13 having curved ends as at 1 1. The bars 13 extend within the lower end of the body-portion 1. Two bars are employed and one is disposed at right angles with respect to the other.
When the combined garment supporting and suspension members are mountedin position within the body-portion 1, that portion of said members which extend in the body-portion 1 snugly engage the inner face thereof. The material from which the members are formed is slightly resilient which maintains the members in position. The bars from which the legs are constructed are also somewhatresilient and snugly engage the inner face of the body-portion 1 when the supporting legs are mounted in position.
"What- I claim is:
1. A stand comprising a tubular bodyportion, members bent to provide V-shaped port-ions extending in the upper end of said body-portion and further bent to provide supporting loops and suspension arms terminating in hooks. and inverted V-shaped bars extending in the lower end of said body-portion and constituting supporting legs.
2. A stand comprising a tubular bodyportion, a pair of bars having the central portion thereof substantially V-shaped in contour and extending in the upper end of said body-portion, said V-shaped portions of said bars disposed at right angles with respect to each other, each of said bars further bent to provide a pair of supporting loops and a pair of suspension hooks, and supporting means for the body-portion.
3. A stand comprising a tubular bodyportion, a pair of bars extending in and projecting from the upper end of said bodyportion and each provided with a pair of supporting loops and a pair of suspension hooks, and supporting legs extending in the lower end of said body-portion.
4. A stand comprising a tubular bodyportion, a pair of bars extending in and projecting from the upper end of said body-portion and each provided with a pair of supporting loops and a pair of suspension hooks, and inverted V-shaped bars extending into the lower end of said body-portion and constituting supporting legs for the latter.
