This invention relates to garments such as suits, dresses and the like, for use by school children, saleswomen and others, and has reference more particularly to a gar ment which comprises a body having associated therewith a movable flap, and a pocket normally concealed by said flap, said flap being movable into a position to render said pocket available for use, and means for holding said flap in said lastmentioned position.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple, strong and durable garment of any desired style, size, shape or form, which can be used by school children, saleswomen or others, who, at certain times require the use of pockets or the like which at other times are not needed, in which these pockets or other receptacles can be concealed when not in use, in which the means for concealing the pockets simulate in appearance a part of the garment body and may harmonize with the same in form and ornamentation, and in which the general appearance or style of the garment is not affected by the special device of my invention.

The invent-ion consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a school dress for use by girls, constituting an embodiment of my invention and showing the special pocket concealed; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the flap in position to render the pockets available for use; Fig. 3 is an enlarged, vertical. section on the line 3-3 of Fig.2; and Figs. 4' and 5 are similar views of a modified form of myinvention.

that the same is particularly useful in connection with garments to be worn by school children, it can also be advantageously applied to other forms of garments, for example to worlcdresses used by saleswomen, operatives in factories, etc. In the case of school children for example, it is desirable to provide their garments with a number of be used particularly while the children are atschool. These pockets may be used for differentpurposes, Ior example as containers for pencils, slate rags, or other implements. At other times these pockets are not necessary and would tend to render the garment unsightly. lily invention therefore provides means for conwhen they are not in use.

Certain of the details of construction shown for example herewith, form no part of the invention and can be varied in accordance with individual preference and special conditions, without deviating from the essence of the'invention as defined in the appended claims.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, I have shown for example, a dress fashioned from any suitable material, having at waist portion 10, a skirt 11, and sleeves 12. I designate the waist portion and the skirt portion together, as the body of the garment. These two parts of the garment. as separated by a belt 13 of an suitable form ha ving at the front a removable section 14 cured in place at its extremities by means of Extending downwardly from the waist of the garment body and begin ning under the belt section 14 is a normally depending flap or panel 16 of suitable form, and preferably extending to the lower edge of the skirt, where it can be secured in position by means of buttons 17 or any other suitable fastening. I prefer to constructthe flap or panel so that it resembles in appearance and simulates somr part of the body of the garment, for example some portion of the skirt, which may be constructei'l so that it, too, has the appcaraiu-c of ornamental panels.

At the under side I provide the flap with a plurality of pockets 18 of diifcrcnt shapes and sizes, and designed for different purposes. lVhen the flap is raised. as shown in Fig. 2, the pockets becimu available for use. At the waistband is secured a normally depending flap 25 which, when extends through a slit or opening 26 at the waist of the garment, to the inside of the skirt, so that it can depend .at the inside in a concealed position. When it is desired to use the pocket 27 carried by the fiap it is drawn out through the slit 26 and secured in a raised position by means of the buttons 28 or any other suitable fasteners.
