To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATT KNEELAND, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Dia-' niond, in the county of Newton and State.
that not only will the points be securely and effectively fastened in place but also the joint connecting the points with the main body of the pick may be readily and efiectively cleaned.
Referring to the accompanying drawings:Figure 1 is a view of a pick and a portion of the handle, said pick being constructed in accordance with this invention. It will be seen that means of the fore- 7 going construction the, point 5 may be" readily secured to the main body of the pick and may be firmly held inplace therein.
In Fig. 7 is shovm a'modification oi t;he-
point in which a point 15Iis formed with a ove tailed projection 16 having a redubed projection 1'? at the end of the dove tailed 1 projection 16, the projection 17 being provided with a suitable recess, as forexample, the transverse slot 18 which is adapted to be engaged bya screw 19 extending through a hole 12 in the main body of the pick.
In addition to the point being securely held in place on the main body of the pick the dove tailed slot 14 owing-to its shape permits of the dirt or other foreign matter which may accumulate therein being readily removed therefrom by means of a suitable instrument, as for example, the bladeof a knife.
By means of a. pick constructed in accordance with this invention the points may be readily removed when broken and new ones substituted therefor.
What I claim is 1. In a pick of the kind described, a main body having a dove tailed socket'with a longitudinal slot in the underside of the body of the pick, and a socket-at the inner end'of said dove tailed socket. and a hole in .the main body of thepick extending transversely through said last named socket, a
detachable pick having a. dovetailed pro- .iection and a reduced projection atthe endof said. dove tailed projection, said dove tailed projection bein tailed socket, and. said reduced projection being located in the socket in the inner end of the dove tailed socket, and means extend ing from the hole in the main. bodyof the pick and through said socket in the inner end of the dovetail socket and engaging said reduced projection on the end of the doveteil projection of the point.
2. In a pick of the kind described, a main body portion formed with a dove tailed socket at each end thereof, with :i longitucinail slotin the underside of the main body of the pick, and a socket the inner end. of
