POCKET.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CLARA THOMANN, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Paris, in the Republic of France, my post-ofiice address being 6 Rue Vircingtorix, Paris, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pockets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to a safety pocket which is of easy access for the bearer, prevents the dress from being deformed and renders great security against'pick-pockets.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of the pocket according to this invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional elevations of the same according to the line mx of the Fig. 1 showing the inner pocket in a side view in its raised and in its lowered position. Fig. 41 shows the pocket in combination with a ladys dress.

1 is a waist-belt to be worn around the waist of the user. On this belt 1 is suspended an exterior pocket 3 having an opening 5. The upper part of this pocket 3 has an orifice 6 which is inclosed by an eye 7. 8 is the inner or safety pocket which serves as a receptacle for the purse, valuables and other things and can be lowered and raised within the pocket 3. In order to obtain good guidance for the safety pocket 8 in the outer pocket and to prevent a distortion thereof, when it is raised or lowered, there are two lateral guide-lines 9 and a central flexible guide band 10 of suitable rigid material on the inner side of the outer pocket 3. On the safety pocket 8 there are fixed four eyes 11 embracing the lines 9 and an eye 12 embracing the iron band 10. A plate 13 having a hook 14 is fastened on the top part of the pocket 8. The book 141 of the pocket 8 engages with the eye 7 of the pocket 3. Also a ring 15 is fastened on the top of the inner pocket 8.

In use the double-pocket will be worn usually aside behind the knee under the dress 18 provided with a slit 17 (Fig. 4).

The slit 17, which can be closed, is for gaining access to the opening 5 of the pocket 3. The pocket can be attached atits lower end to the under-coat by means of a suitable clamp at 16. lVhen the safety pocket 8 is not raised for inserting or removing some articles, it rests with its contents at about the height of the knee on the bottom of the exterior pocket 3. Under such conditions the dress is not deformed and it is not possible for pick-pockets to abstract any article without being detected.

On the outer side of the pocket 3, at the lower end thereof there is arranged a third pocket 19 which will serve as a receptacle for a pocket-handkerchief or other similar light articles of little worth.

For inserting an article into the safety pocket 8 or for removing such article from this pocket, the user passes one hand through the slit 17 and raises the pocket 8 by means of ring 15 and passes the hook 14 into the eye 7. In this position, the interior of the inner or safety pocket can easily be reached. For replacing the pocket 8, the user disengages, the hook 14: from the eye 7 so that the pocket 8 can slide down to the bottom of the pocket 3.

WVhat I claim is 1. In a dress pocket, the combination of an outer pocket, means for supporting the outer pocket, guide bars fixed to the inside of the outer pocket, a safety pocket, clips attached to the safety pocket for slidably securing the safety pocket to the guide bars, and means for holding the safety pocket in its upper position, substantially as described.

2. In a dress pocket, the combination of an outer pocket, a waist band for supporting the outer pocket, guides on the inside of the outer pocket, a safety pocket, clips attached to the safety pocket for slidably securing the safety pocket to the guides, an eye attached to the outer pocket, and a hook fastened to the inner pocket for engaging said eye to hold the inner pocket in its upper position, substantially as described.

3. In a dress pocket, the combination of an outer pocket, a waist band secured to the outer pocket, guides on the inside of the outer pocket, a safety pocket, clips attached to the safety pocket for slidably securing the safety pocket to the guides, an eye attaehed t0 the outer pocket, a hook fastened name to this specification in the presence of to the inner pocket for engaging the eye two subscribing Witnesses. to hold the outer pocket in its upper position, and a pocket carried on the outside of CLARA THOMANN' 5 the outer pocket for holding a handkerchief, Witnesses:
