ventilator which is adapted to be positioned upon the smoke pipe of a stove, range or the like, and is particularly intended for use in combination with a hood which is positioned over a cook stove for the purpose of removing all odors and bad air from the room in which it is placed.
The invention consists in the employment of a pipe section which may be fitted upon the pipe members of the stove, the said pipe section being provided with an opening and a door for said opening, the said door having a resilient handle member which is adapted to contact the section and to force the door tightly against the wall surrounding the opening, the section being further provided with an ofiset or ring member which is adapted to engage the rounded top portion of a removable substantially rectangular hood.
With the above, and other objects in view, which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanyin drawings there has been illustrated a simp e and preferred embodiment of the improvement, and in which drawings,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved ventilator and hood attached thereto, showing the same connected to a cook stove, the hood being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the device also showing a hood in section. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal sectional view through the ventilator proper. Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view upon the line 44: of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is an enlarged elevation of the improvement.
In the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 designates a cook stove of any suitable design, 2 the lower portion of the smoke pipe connected with the stove, and 3 the improved ventilator. This ventilator 3 comprises a pipe section having its upper and lower edges of such a diameter as to readily engage with the smoke pipe sections of the stove. The ventilator 3 is provided with an opening 4, positioned a suitable distance away from the lower edge thereof, and the said opening is normally closed through the medium of a sliding door 5. This door 5 is mounted in ways 6 which are arranged vertically upon the ventilator 3, and the said ways are adapted to engage with thoopposite ends of the door 5. I
The numeral 7 designates the resilient connection for the door. The member 7 is preferably constructed of a single strand of resilient material bent upon itself to provide the arms 8 and 9. The inner arm 8 is connected with the lower face of the door 5. The numeral 10 designates a bail through which both of the members 8 and 9 pass, and the said bail is adapted to be contacted by the outer arm 9 to add to the tension thereof. The arm 9 contacts the face of the door 5 and through the medium of the bail 11 has a tendency to force the door 5 against the pipe section or ventilator 3. The lower extremity of the member 7 is provided with a handle 7, and the said handle is formed with an inturned portion or knob 11. The ventilator 3 is provided with a plurality of spaced depressions 12, any of which being adapted to receive the knob 11 so as to regulate the sliding of the door 5 in relation to the opening or ventila tor pipe 3.
Integrally formed upon the ventilator 3 directly above the opening 4 is an annular ring 13. This ring 13 has its upper portion provided with a plurality of faces, preferably four in number, and inclined in opposite directions, the said faces being adapted to contact the inclined walls 14: provided by the hood 15. This hood 15 has its lower portion of a substantially rectangular formation and its walls inclined upwardly toward a centrally arranged circular collar 16 and the collar 16 is adapted to snugly fit the upper portion of the ventilator 3.
Having thus fully described the invention, what we claim as new is 1. A ventilator for cooking stoves comprising a pipe section for the stove and for the smoke pipe of the stove, the said section being formed with an opening, a sliding door for normally closing this opening, ways adjacent the opening and engaging the door, a resilient member connected with the door, said member comprising a pair of vertical arms, one of which engages the lower face of the door and lies snugly against the pipe section while the opposite member engages the outer face of the door, a bail straddling the said arms and exerting pressure upon the outer arm to force the same tightly against the door and to bring the said door frictionally into contact with the pipe section and to force the same tightly against the pipe section, the said members having their lower portions formed with a handle and being further provided with an inturned knob, the ventilating pipe being formed with a plurality of depressions adapted to be engaged by the said knob, and a hood positioned above the stove and depending below the opening of the pipe section.
2. A ventilator for stoves comprising a ventilator pipe which is adapted to be secured to the stove and connected with the stack or pipe of the stove, said ventilator section having its upper extremity formed with an annular ring, the said ventilator being further provided with an opening below the ring, a vertically slidable door for normally closing the opening, a resilient member for the door, said member being constructed of a single strand of wire and comprising a pair of vertically extending arms, one of the members engaging the lower face of the door and adapted to lie snugly against the ventilator pipe, theopposite member engaging the outer face of the door, a bail connected with the ventilator pipe and straddling the arms to force the outer arm to exert pressure upon the door, the lower extremity of this member being formed with a handle and the portion of the member directly behind the handle being formed with a knob, the said pipe being further provided with spaced depressions for the knob of the handle, and a removable hood adapted to be supported by the ring of the ventilator section and to project downwardly at angles from the said section to form a covering abovethe stove and below the opening of the ventilator pipe.
3. In combination with a stove having a pipe section connected with the smoke outlet thereof, and a hood supported by and removably connected with the pipe section, the pipe section being provided with an opening, a sliding door for normally closing the opening, a bail upon the pipe section,
a spring handle comprising a pair of resilient arms adapted to pass through the bail, one of said arms being connected with the sliding door, the second arm adapted to contact with the bail and to engage the outer face of the door to force said door tightly into engagement with the pipe section, the handle being formed with a knob having an inwardly extending portion, the said pipe section being provided with a plurality o1 notches, one of which being adapted to receive the inturned portion of the handle to sustain the door'in an adjusted position with relation to the opening in the said pipe section.
