ARTICLE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 10, 1911.
Application filed January 16, 1911. Serial No. 602,954.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN J. WALTER, a citizen of Switzerland, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Article- I-Iolders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invent-ion relates to improvements in article holders, and an object thereof is to provide a device of this character which will hold a spool, together with several other articles necessary to a seamstress. A special clip is provided, on which the thimble may be slipped and retained in place, a hook also being formed in the device for supporting scissors or other small articles.
With the above and other objects in View, this invention resldes in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device; Fig. 2 is an end elevation; Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view on the line 44 of Fig. 2, showing a thimble attached to the device.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, the numeral 1 represents a rectangular base, from which a U-shaped section or leaf 2 is punched and bent at right angles thereto. Near the middle of the U- shaped section 2, four small eyes are formed to receive and hold the free ends of a spring spool engaging and retaining member 4, said spool holding member being formed of wire bent in substantially V-shape, the free ends then being turned down at right angles and inserted in the eyes 3 formed in the section 2, and the intermediate portion of the V- shaped wire being brought close together and bent upward at right angles to form a tongue is punched out of the section 2, and
bent outward to form a thimble engaging clip 10, a similar tongue being punched out of the base 1 to form a hook 11, on which may be hung small scissors or other articles.
To fasten the device to any desired support, as the belt or waist, two vertical pins 12 are provided on the back of the base 1, their upper ends being fastened by any suitable means, as the eyes 13, formed near the upper edge of the base 1.
It is evident from the above that the device may be made in various modifications not illustrated without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus fully described this invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
An article holder comprising a base, means for attaching to a support, a U-shaped section punched from the base and bent at right angles thereto, article supporting tongues punched from said base and U- shaped section, eyes formed by punching outwardly portions of the said U-shaped section, and a spool holding member formed of wire bent in substantially V-shape, the intermediate portion of the wire being brought close together and bent upwardly to form a clip, and the free ends offset for engagement with the eyes formed in the U-shaped section.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
M. G. DUSENBERY.
