Abstract

本發明係有關一種流體噴出裝置。
流體噴出裝置,例如噴墨列印系統的列印頭,可利用熱電阻器或壓電材料薄膜作為流體腔室內之致動器,以從噴嘴噴出流體液滴(例如墨水),使得來自該等噴嘴之墨水液滴的適當序列噴射致生字符或其它影像,隨著該列印頭和一列印媒體彼此相對移動而被列印在該印刷媒體上。
去蓋期間(decap)係噴墨噴嘴能夠維持沒有蓋件及暴露於環境條件而不會致使所噴出墨汁液滴的劣化之時間量。去蓋期間的效應可能改變液滴軌跡、速度、形狀和顏色,這些全部會負面影響列印品質。諸如水或是溶劑的汽化之有關去蓋期間的其它因素,會致生色料-墨水媒液分離(PIVS)和黏滯栓塞成形。舉例來說,在儲存或是不使用時段的期間,色料粒子可能自墨水媒液沉澱或「瓦解(crash)」出來,而會妨礙或阻擋墨水流至噴出腔室和噴嘴。

本揭露大體上藉由循環(或再循環)流體通過流 體噴出腔室來有助於降低噴墨列印系統中之墨水阻塞及/或堵塞。流體循環(或再循環)通過包括流體循環元件或致動器之流體通道,以泵送或循環該流體。
如下文所揭露,圖1繪示一噴墨列印系統之一範例作為具有流體循環之一流體噴出裝置的一範例。噴墨列印系統100包括一列印頭總成102、一墨水供應總成104、一安裝總成106、一媒體輸送總成108、一電子控制器110和至少一電力供應器112,其提供電力給噴墨列印系統100的各種電子構件。列印頭總成102包括至少一流體噴出總成114(列印頭114),其經由多個小孔或是噴嘴116朝一列印媒體118噴出墨水液滴,以便列印於列印媒體118上。
列印媒體118能夠是任何類型的適合紙張或捲型材料,諸如紙張、卡片備料、透明片、麥拉膠片(Mylar)等。噴嘴116典型地配置成一或更多個行或陣列,使得當列印頭總成102和列印媒體118係彼此相對移動時,墨水從噴嘴116之適當依序噴出致生要被列印在列印媒體118上之字符、符號及/或其它圖片或影像。
墨水供應總成104供應流體墨水至列印頭總成102,且在一範例中,包括用以儲存墨水之一貯器120,使得墨水從貯器120流至列印頭總成102。墨水供應總成104和列印頭總成102能夠形成一單向墨水遞送系統或一再循環墨水遞送系統。在一單向墨水遞送系統中,被供應至列印頭總成102之實質全部的墨水係在列印期間消耗。在一再循環墨水遞送系統中,被供應至列印頭總成102的墨水中的僅 一部份係在列印期間消耗。在列印期間未消耗之墨水會回到墨水供應總成104。
在一範例中,列印頭總成102和墨水供應總成104係一起被容置在一噴墨匣或筆中。在另一範例中,墨水供應總成104係與列印頭總成102分離,並經過例如一供應管之一介面連接而供應墨水到列印頭總成102。在上述範例任一者中,墨水供應總成104之貯器120可被移除、替換及/或重新填裝。當列印頭總成102和墨水供應總成104被一起容置在一噴墨匣中,貯器120包括位設在該匣內之一區域貯器以及與該匣分開位設之一較大貯器。該分開、較大的貯器可作重新填裝該區域貯器之用。緣此,該分開、較大的貯器及/或該區域貯器可被移除、替換及/或重新填裝。
安裝總成106使列印頭總成102相對於媒體輸送總成108置放,以及媒體輸送總成108使列印媒體118相對於列印頭總成102置放。因此,一列印區122係被界定成鄰接噴嘴116於列印頭總成102和列印媒體118之間的一區域中。在一範例中,列印頭總成102係一掃描類型的列印頭總成。於是,安裝總成106包括一載架,其用以使列印頭總成102相對於媒體輸送總成108移動以掃描列印媒體118。在另一範例中,列印頭總成102係一非掃描類型的列印頭總成。於是,安裝總成106使列印頭總成102固定在相對於媒體輸送總成108的一指示位置。因此,媒體輸送總成108使列印媒體118相對於列印頭總成102置放。
電子控制器110典型地包括一處理器、韌體、軟 體、包括依電性和非依電性記憶體構件之一或更多記憶體構件、以及用以與列印頭總成102、安裝總成106和媒體輸送總成108通訊並控制它們之其它印表機電子電路。電子控制器110接收來自例如一電腦的一主機系統之資料124,以及一記憶體中之暫時儲存資料124。典型地,資料124係沿著一電子、紅外線、光學或其它資訊轉移路徑,被發送給噴墨列印系統100。資料124代表例如要被列印之一文件及/或檔案。於是,資料124形成針對噴墨列印系統100之一列印工作,並包括一或更多個列印工作指令及/或指令參數。

列印頭總成102包括一或更多個列印頭114。在一範例中,列印頭總成102係一寬陣列或多噴頭的列印頭總成。在一寬陣列總成的一實作中,列印頭總成102包括一載體,其攜載多個列印頭114,提供列印頭114和電子控制器110之間的電氣連通,並提供列印頭114和墨水供應總成104之間的流體連通。

在一範例中,電子控制器110包括儲存在控制器110的一記憶體中之一流動循環模組126。流動循環模組126於電子控制器110(即控制器110的一處理器)上執行,以控制一或更多流體致動器的操作,作為列印頭總成102之泵元件,以控制列印頭總成102內之流體循環。
圖2係繪示一流體噴出裝置200之一部份的一個範例之一簡要平面圖。流體噴出裝置200包括一流體噴出腔室202以及於流體噴出腔室202內形成或製備之一對應液滴噴出元件204。流體噴出腔室202和液滴噴出元件204係形成在一基體206上,該基體206具有形成在其中之一流體(或墨水)進送槽208,致使流體進送槽208提供流體(或墨水)的供應給流體噴出腔室202和液滴噴出元件204。基體206可例如由矽、玻璃或一穩定聚合物所形成。
在一範例中,流體噴出腔室202係於製備在基體206上的一阻障層(未示出)中形成或是由其界定,致使流體噴出腔室202在該阻障層中提供一「井(well)」。該阻障層可例如由如SU8之感光環氧樹脂所製造。
在一範例中,一噴嘴或小孔層(未示出)係形成或延伸於該阻障層上方,使得形成在該小孔層中的一噴嘴開口或小孔212與一個別流體噴出腔室202連通。噴嘴開口或 小孔212可為一環形、非環形或其它形狀。
液滴噴出元件204可為能夠透過對應噴嘴開口或小孔212噴出流體液滴之任何裝置。液滴噴出元件204的範例包括一熱電阻器或一壓電致動器。作為一液滴噴出元件的範例之一熱電阻器係典形地形成於一基體(如基體206)的一表面上,並且包括一薄膜堆疊,其包括一氧化層、一金屬層和一鈍化層,使得當受致動時,來自熱電阻器的熱使流體噴出腔室202中的液體蒸發,藉此致生一泡沫,其噴出流體液滴通過噴嘴開口或小孔212。作為一液滴噴出元件的範例之一壓電致動器,通常包括一壓電材料,其製備於與流體噴出腔室202連通之一可移式隔膜上,使得當受致動時,該壓電材料致使該隔膜相對於流體噴出腔室202偏撓,藉此產生一壓力脈衝,其噴出流體液滴通過噴嘴開口或小孔212。

如同圖2的範例所例示地,流體循環通道220與一個(即一單一)流體噴出腔室202連通。於是,流體噴出裝置200具有1:1的噴嘴對泵之一比例,其中流體循環元件222係表示為一「泵」,其誘發通過流體循環通道220及流體噴出腔室202之流體流。在一1:1比例下,循環係針對每個流體噴出腔室202各別提供。
在圖2繪示的範例中,液滴噴出元件204和流體循環元件222皆為熱電阻器。該等熱電阻器的每一者可包括例如一單一電阻器、一分離式電阻器、一梳形電阻器或多個電阻器。然而,各種其它裝置也能夠備用來實現液滴噴出元件204和液體循環元件222,例如包括一壓電致動器、一靜電(MEMS)隔膜、一機械/衝擊驅動隔膜、一音圈、一磁伸縮驅動器等。
圖3係繪示一流體噴出裝置300之一部份的另一個範例之一簡要平面圖。流體噴出裝置300包括多個流體噴出腔室302和多個流體循環通道320。類似於上文所述地,流體噴出腔室302各包括具有一對應噴嘴開口或小孔312之一液滴噴出元件304,以及流體循環通道320各包括一流體循環元件322。
在圖3所繪示的範例中,多個流體循環通道320各係於一端部324開口及與流體進送槽308連通,且於例如端部326a、326b之一另一端部與多個流體噴出腔室302(即多於一個流體噴出腔室)連通。在一範例中,流體循環通道320包括多個通道迴路部份,例如通道迴路部份328a、 328b,其各與一不同的流體噴出腔室302連通,致使基於由一對應流體循環元件322所導入之流,從流體進送槽308經過流體循環通道320(包括通道迴路部份328a、328b)及相關聯的流體噴出腔室302循環(或再循環)。
如同圖3的範例所例示地,流體循環通道320各與兩個流體噴出腔室302連通。於是,流體噴出裝置300具有2:1的噴嘴對泵之一比例,其中流體循環元件322係表示為一「泵」,其誘發通過一對應流體循環通道320及相關聯流體噴出腔室302之流體流。其它噴嘴對泵之比例(例如3:1、4:1等)也是有可能的。
圖4係繪示一流體噴出裝置400之一部份的另一個範例之一簡要平面圖。流體噴出裝置400包括多個流體噴出腔室402和多個流體循環通道420。類似於上文所描述,流體噴出腔室402各包括具有一對應噴嘴開口或小孔412之一液滴噴出元件404,以及流體循環通道420各包括一流體循環元件422。
在圖4中所例示的範例中,流體循環通道420各向具有流體進送槽408的一端部424開口和連通,並與具有多重流體噴出腔室402的另一端部,例如端部426a、426b、426c…,連通。在一範例中,流體循環通道420包括多個通道迴路部份428a、428b、428c…,各與一流體噴出腔室402連通,致使流體根據由一對應流體循環元件422所誘發之流動,從流體進送槽408循環(或再循環)經過流體循環通道420(包括通道迴路部份428a、428b、428c…)及相關聯的流 體噴出腔室402。此種流動於圖4中以箭頭430呈現。
圖5係繪示操作一流體噴出裝置之一方法500的一個範例之一流程圖,該流體噴出裝置諸如如同上文所述並於圖2、3和4中的範例所例示之流體噴出裝置200、300和400。
在步驟502,方法500包括以使一流體循環通道與一流體槽和至少一個流體噴出腔室連通,該等流體循環通道例如為流體循環通道220、320和420,該流體槽例如為流體進送槽208、308和408,該等流體噴出腔室例如為流體噴出腔室202、302和402。諸如流體循環通道220、320和420之流體循環通道,具有與其連通之一流體循環元件,如流體循環元件222、322和422,以及諸如流體噴出腔室202、302和402之流體噴出腔室具有在其中之一液滴噴出元件,例如液滴噴出元件204、304和404。
在步驟504,方法500包括藉由操作如流體循環元件222、322和422之流體循環元件,來提供流體從如流體進送槽208、308和408的該流體槽經過如流體循環通道220、320和420的流體循環通道及如流體噴出裝置202、302和402的至少一個流體噴出腔室之應需(on-demand)循環。
圖6A和6B分別係操作一流體噴出裝置的範例性時序圖600A和600B之概要示意圖,該流體噴出裝置諸如如同上文所述並於圖2、3和4中的範例所例示之流體噴出裝置200、300和400。更特定地說,時序圖600A和600B各基於操作如流體循環元件222、322和422之流體循環元件,來提 供供流體從如流體進送槽208、308和408的該流體槽經過如流體循環通道220、320和420的流體循環通道及如流體噴出裝置202、302和402的個別流體腔室之應需循環之用。
在圖6A和6B中所例示的範例中,時序圖600A和600B包括一水平軸,其代表例如流體噴出裝置200、300和400的一流體噴出噴出裝置之操作(或未操作)的時間。在時序圖600A和600B中,較高、較細的垂直線610A和610B分別代表例如液滴噴出元件204、304和404的液滴噴出元件之操作,而較短、較寬的垂直線620A和620B分別代表例如流體循環元件222、322和422的流體循環元件之操作。該等液滴噴出元件之操作(線610A、610B)可包括針對噴嘴預熱及/或維護之操作以及針對列印之操作。
在圖6A和6B所例示的範例中,在該液滴噴出元件操作之不同或無關聯時段(線610A、610B)之間的一段時間分別代表該流體噴出裝置之一去蓋時間630A和630B。因此,去蓋時間630A和630B可包括例如噴嘴預熱/維護和列印之間的一段時間(反之亦然),以及一第一列印操作、序列或系列(例如第一列印工作)與一第二列印操作、序列或系列(例如第二列印工作)之間的一段時間。
如時序圖600A所例示地,流體循環元件之操作及從而經過流體循環通道之流體循環係在去蓋時間630A的期間內應需地提供。更特定地說,流體循環元件之操作(線620A)係在該等液滴噴出元件之操作(線610A)之前,於該去蓋時間末端提供。於是,該應需循環在未操作該等液滴噴 出元件的一時段期間內是未啟動的,此未啟動時段係在去蓋時間630A期間內。因此,流體循環係在未操作該等液滴噴出元件的一時段之後且在隨後操作該等液滴噴出元件之前提供。
在一範例中,時序圖600A之應需循環係以一延遲(△t)在該等液滴噴出元件操作之前提供。在一範例中,該延遲係小於操作該等液滴噴出元件的一頻率。於是,該等流體循環元件之操作(線620A)提供在該等流體噴出元件的操作之前(線610A),在去蓋時間630A末端經過該等流體循環通道之應需流體循環。
如時序圖600B所例示地,流體循環元件之操作及從而經過該等流體循環通道之流體循環係在去蓋時間630B的期間內應需地提供。更特定地說,流體循環元件之操作(線620B)係在該等液滴噴出元件之操作(線610B)之前,於該去蓋時間末端提供。於是,該應需循環在未操作該等液滴噴出元件的一時段期間內是未啟動的,此未啟動時段係在去蓋時間630B期間內。因此,流體循環係在未操作該等液滴噴出元件的一時段之後且在隨後操作該等液滴噴出元件之前提供。
在一範例中,時序圖600B之應需循環係在該等液滴噴出元件操作之前沒有一延遲地提供。於是,該等流體循環元件之操作(線620B)提供恰於該等流體噴出元件的操作之前(線610B),在去蓋時間630B末端經過該等流體循環通道之應需流體循環。
時序圖600A和600B中,該等流體循環元件之操作的各個群聚或群集(線620A)包括藉由操作該等流體循環元件所提供之循環的數個脈衝(即多數個脈衝)。在一範例中,該再循環頻率及/或脈衝的數目係不會固定。反而,該再循環頻率對列印頻率為非同步,致使該應需循環之相關聯參數(例如再循環頻率及/或脈衝的數目)可針對一特定列印系統最佳化。因此,多個頻率及/或多個脈衝計數針對該應需循環為可能的。
此外,時序圖600A和600B中,該應需循環就在該等液滴噴出元件之操作(線610B)之前發生,以供列印影像資料。就此而言,例如流動循環模組126(圖1)之該控制器監控影像資料並基於閒置時間(例如去蓋時間限制遭違反)和影像資料啟始該應需循環。因此,該應需循環只有在需要時才提供。更進一步地,在一範例中,該應需循環被提供給要被用來列印影像資料之一特定液滴噴出元件(或多個特定液滴噴出元件)。於是,與要被用來列印之該(等)液滴噴出元件相關聯之該(等)特定流體循環元件受操作。再次地,該應需循環只有在需要時才提供。
當有如同本文所述之包括循環的一流體噴出裝置,墨水阻塞及/或堵塞即減少。於是,去蓋時間即從而噴嘴健康獲增加。此外,顏料墨水媒液分離和黏稠插塞形成即減少或是消弭。更進一步地,藉由使維護期間的墨水消耗降低(例如最小化墨水噴吐以保持噴嘴健康),墨水效率獲改進。此外,如同本文所描述之包括循環的流體噴出裝置, 藉由在循環期間從該噴出腔室清除空氣泡沫,來幫助處理空氣泡沫。

Claims (15)

  1. 一種流體噴出裝置,其包含:一流體槽;與該流體槽連通之至少一流體噴出腔室;在該至少一流體噴出腔室內之一液滴噴出元件;與該流體槽及該至少一流體噴出腔室連通之一流體循環通道;以及與該流體循環通道連通之一流體循環元件,該流體循環元件係用以提供流體從該流體槽經過該流體循環通道及該至少一流體噴出腔室之應需循環。
  2. 如請求項1之流體噴出裝置,其中該流體循環元件的操作係在該液滴噴出元件的操作之前提供。
  3. 如請求項2之流體噴出裝置,其中該流體循環元件的操作係在該液滴噴出元件的操作前以一延遲提供。
  4. 如請求項3之流體噴出裝置,其中該延遲係小於該液滴噴出元件的操作之一頻率。
