Abstract

Zinc alloys for the cells of electrochemical batteries. Besides zinc and unavoidable impurities the alloys also contain 0.05 to 0.8 % Pb and either 0.005 to 1 % Al and 0.0005 to 0.1 % REM where REM is a rare-earth metal or a mixture of metals of rare earths or 0.005 to 1 % Mn, or 0.005 to 1.5 % mixtures of Al, REM and Mn. These alloys have a greater mechanical hardness and a better resistance to corrosion than the known alloys with Pb-Cd or Pb.
