Abstract

A fifthwheel coupling has a fifthwheel kingpin arranged on the semitrailer and a coupling plate which receives said kingpin in a slot with run-in slopes and is mounted on two bearing supports on both sides of the slot for compensating for jack-knifing movements between tractor and semitrailer and for facilitating the coupling process. The bearing support has sloping walls with which it is fixed on the tractor. To reduce the overall height and to improve the position of the centre of gravity and to increase the rigidity, the coupling plate has on its lower side a semispherical bearing head and the bearing support has a semispherical bearing shell which receives the coupling plate, and the walls of the bearing support are fitted on the bearing shell in the vicinity of its upper edges.
