Abstract
Producing a mirror for a high energy laser involves: (a) depositing a silicon oxide thin film on the flat face (3) of a carbon-based support (1); (b) depositing, on the film, a fine powder layer of glass having an expansion coefficient close to that of the support; (c) placing, on the layer, a sheet (4) of material which can be optically polished and which has an expansion coefficient close to that of the support; (d) heating the assembly to melt the glass layer and bond the sheet onto the support; and (e) optically polishing the external surface of the sheet. Also claimed is a high energy laser mirror having a sheet (4) of material which can be optically polished and which has an expansion coefficient close to that of a support (1), the sheet being fixed to a flat face of a carbon-based support (1) by a vitreous material film (5).
