Abstract

The invention relates to a vehicle gearbox for transverse engines, especially a five-speed gearbox. The input shaft (2) of the gearbox has non-rotatable gears (11-16), which engage gears (17, 18, 19, 23, 24) on two intermediate shafts (3, 4) which are parallel to the input shaft. The gears on the intermediate shafts are freely rotatably mounted and can be coupled to the shafts by means of engaging sleeves (21, 22, 25). The intermediate shafts each has a non- rotatably fixed gear (7, 8) which engages the crown wheel (9) of the differential and functions as a pinion drive, the gears (7, 8) being fixed on the ends of the intermediate shafts directed towards the input end of the input shaft. Gears (13, 28) and an additional sliding gear (not shown) provide for reverse drive. <IMAGE>
