Abstract
The invention relates to a gearbox for vehicles and comprises an input shaft 3 and a concentric main shaft 6 constituting the output shaft 8 of the gearbox. A pinion 12 is fastened to the input shaft 3 and engages a gear wheel 13 on a layshaft 9. Said layshaft 9 carries also a number of layshaft gear wheels 14, 15, engaging a corresponding number of shifting gear wheels 23, 24 on the main shaft 6 to form different gear ratios. According to the invention, an engageable second pinion 31 is rotatably journalled on the input shaft 3, engaging a layshaft gear wheel 39 on a second layshaft 10, which also carries a number of further layshaft gear wheels 40, 41 engaging the shifting gear wheels 23, 24 on the main shaft 6. In the gearbox according to the invention, the friction losses are low due to certain gear wheels being disengageable in certain gear positions. <IMAGE>
