Abstract

1533256 Cartridge operated nail guns SOC DE PROSPECTION ET D'INVENTIONS TECHNIQUES 22 Oct 1975 [4 Nov 1975 27 June 1975 (2)] 43265/75 Heading B4C In a cartridge operated nailing gun a breech block member 13 is provided having a cartridge receiving slot 15, a firing pin access passageway 17 and at least one gas discharge passageway 16 which leads to an expansion chamber 11 in which is received either a fastener or fastener driving plunger 5. As shown in Fig. 3 the gun barrel 1 is drawn forward in order that a charge may be inserted through slot 19. When the barrel is pushed back the breech block 13 enters chamber 11. The power of the gun, as determined by the initial size of expansion chamber 11 is varied by an adjustable threaded sleeve 20. In one modification (not shown) a recess equivalent in operation to chamber 11 is located in the end of the fastener driving piston. Alternatively a sleeve on the barrel 1 may locate around the breech block 13. A further modification provides a pivotable and axially slidable barrel without a fastener driving piston is provided. Various configurations of breech blocks and methods of forming them are disclosed. As shown in Fig. 23 the breech block 13 is provided on the rear position of the barrel 1 and a magazine 50 is pivotally mounted on the outside of the gun so that it can be rotated to the position shown and a driving charge inserted into space 15 by actuation of a slide 53.
