Abstract
1439421 Centrifugal casting mould BRITISH STEEL CORP 7 March 1975 [8 March 1974 31 July 1974] 10553/74 and 33801/74 Heading C7A [Also in Division B3] The addition of 1À90-4À0% Cr 0À50-2À0% MO to a steel significantly improves its resistance to thermal crazing and renders the alloy suitable for use as a centrifugal casting mould for ferrous pipes or tubes. The steel preferably contains 0À08-0À04% C, and a suitable composition is C 0À08-0À40 Cr 1À90-4À0 Mo 0À50-2À0 Si 0-0À50 Mn 0À3-0À7 Mi 0-0À40 Cu 0-0À25 Sn 0-0À03 with iron as balance containing the usual impurities i.e. P and S. Examples of moulds within this composition range which were cast, forged and either normalized at 960 C followed by tempering at 690‹C or heat-treated and oil quenched from 850‹C followed by tempering at 630‹C, slow cooling at 500‹C and finally aircooling prior to machining to final shape, gave a two-fold increase in service life over the current low-Cr, low-Mo steel presently used.
