Abstract

PURPOSE: To privode the title steel with wear resistance and toughness by adding a restricted amt. of C, Si, Mn, Cr, Mo, W and V to iron and by specifying the total content of Mo and V.
CONSTITUTION: The steel consists of, by wt., C 0.3W0.6%, Si 0.2W0.6%, Mn 0.2W0.6%, Cr 1.0W3.0%, Mo 1.0W3.5%, W 2.0W4.0%, V 0.5W1.0% and the balance Fe and satisfies Mo+W=4W6%. This compsn. provides superior wear resistance, impact resistance, heat check resistance, toughness and castability. By specifying the total content of Mo and W the wear resistance is increased by tempering. High mechanical workability is also provided, so the steel is used for hot forging dies by precision casting as well as warm forging dies. Using this steel the service life of forging dies is elongated.
