Abstract

The novel penicillins of the formula (I) <IMAGE> in which R is cyclohexadienyl, cyclohexenyl, cyclohexyl or isobutyl, and A is a polycyclic nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic ring, are prepared by reacting a carboxylic acid of the formula (II) HO-A-COOH or a derivative thereof with a compound of the formula (III) <IMAGE> or a derivative thereof. They are valuable as antibacterial agents, additives to animal feeds and therapeutic agents for humans and animals, especially poultry, and are particularly suitable for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, especially by Pseudomonas species.
