Method and device for stopping in case of overspeed an internal combustion engine having fuel injection pumps of the constant stroke, reciprocating piston type, in which a pad defines in the pump body two separate closed chambers, wherein a compressed inert gas is fed in the second chamber for separating the pump piston from its tappet and thereby stopping the injection pump.
