Abstract
1,148,945. Cable taping machines. KABELUND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHœTTE A.G. 5 Aug., 1966 [12 Aug., 1965], No. 35207/66. Heading B8G. A machine for applying tape to a cord or cable 8 comprises an elongated taping basket 1, a magazine holder 2 mounted coaxially to the cord to be taped, a magazine 3 on the holder 2 for holding a tape wound on coaxially disposed tape reels 5, and means for regulating the speed of rotation of the magazine holder 2 so as to maintain a constant tape speed when the tape is changed from an empty reel to a full reel. In Fig. 1b two possible forms of drive are illustrated. In the first case, the taping basket is driven at a at constant speed, while the magazine holder is braked at b when a change is made from an empty reel to a full reel. The braking device is controlled through a tape storage means, not illustrated. In the second case, the magazine holder is driven at b with constant speed subject to regulation by a detector 9, and the taping basket 1 is driven at a with constant torque. When a reel is changed, the magazine holder 2 is regulated through the detector 9 which compares a predetermined speed of rotation with that of the taping basket.
