Abstract
1,024,705. Handling egg cartons. PAGEDETROIT Inc. Oct. 9, 1962 [April 4, 1962], No. 38193/62. Heading B8S. Egg cartons 12 are discharged one by one from magazine 24 by the aid of four members, namely blade 34, blade 48, fingers 146 and arm 62. Initially, the stack and the lowermost carton are supported as in Fig. 4 by blade 34. As blades 34 and 48 move rightwards to the position of Fig. 5 (not shown), the stack and lowermost carton fall on to arms 62 whilst fingers 146 move downwards to bend over the edge of the lowermost carton. This displacement of the edge permits blades 34 and 48 moving in unison to move to the dotted line position of Fig. 5 ready for the separation of the lowermost carton. In the final movement, blades 34 and 48 separate from each other. This leaves blade 34 to support the stack of cartons whilst blade 48 moves downwards bringing with it the lowermost carton supported by arm 62 which moves downwards at the same time. The carton is caught between two fixed rails and discharged leaving the apparatus in the position of Fig. 4 ready for a further discharge of a carton. Operation of the discharge members, Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 (not shown).-Movement is derived from the rotation of cam 84. The movement of fingers 146 which are carried by arms 122 is derived via cam follower 140, arm 138, arm 136, rod 130. The movement of the other three discharge members is effected via rod 86 and via members 52 which are pivoted at 60 to arms 56 themselves pivoted at 58. Upward movement of rod 86 causes arms 56 to pivot about pivots 58 and at the same time members 52 are caused to move upwards whilst being influenced by followers 98 moving in fixed slots 93. The upward pivotal movement of arms 56 is transferred by arm 74, follower 72 and arm 70 to the pivotal movement of arms 62 about 66. The upward movement of members 52 effects two things. Firstly, members 52 carry blades 38 and therefore directly move said blades. Secondly, members 52 are connected by rods 106 and 104 to arms 38 pivoted at 44, said arms carrying blade 34 so that arms 52 effect also the movement of blades 34. In this way the movement of arm 62, blades 34 and 48 and fingers 146 are effected from the rotation of cam 84.
