A heat exchange tube unit comprises a vertical supply tube 1 between a distributer 2 and a collector 3, lower and upper shut-off or throttling devices 5, 5<SP>1</SP> incorporated in the supply tube, and sinuous tubes 4 connected to the supply tube at points below the lower shutoff device 5 and above the upper shut-off device 5<SP>1</SP>, the portion 1<SP>11</SP> of the supply tube lying between the shut-off devices being supplied with heat-exchange fluid by a U-tube 4<SP>1</SP> by-passing the lower shut-off device 5 and the fluid being removed therefrom by a second U-tube 4<SP>11</SP> bypassing the upper shut-off device 5<SP>1</SP>. An unheated return flow tube 6<SP>11</SP> is connected to the supply tube 1 just above the distributer 2 and above the upper shut-off device 5<SP>1</SP>. The portion 11<SP>1</SP> of the supply tube between the shutoff devices may be included in the return flow tube, the U-tubes 4<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>11</SP> then being omitted (Fig. 3). The upper connection of the return flow tube to the supply tube may be between the upper shut-off device 5<SP>1</SP> and the upper connection of the innermost sinuous tube 4, or it may be above the upper connection of the outermost sinuous tube. The tube unit may be used in a steam generator.
