Inventia se refera la un procedeu pentru prepararea 3-picolinei, constînd din aceea ca la o solutie apoasa în concentratie de 3,37...3,41 mol/mol a unei sari de amoniu si acetatul de amoniu, încalzita într-un recipient închis la 220...230 degree C se adauga un amestec de acetaldehida în raport molar de 1:0,7 pîna la 1:0,9, eventual în prezenta de aldehida crotonica.
