Abstract

Provided is a high-Mn steel having exceptional high strength and low-temperature toughness, and furthermore having exceptional low-temperature CTOD characteristics. The high-Mn steel has: a component composition comprising, in percent by mass, 0.10-0.70 pcnt of C, 0.05-0.50 pcnt of Si, 20-30 pcnt of Mn, 0.030 pcnt or less of P, 0.0070 pcnt or less of S, 0.01-0.07 pcnt of Al, 0.5-7.0 pcnt of Cr, at least 0.01 pcnt and less than 0.1 pcnt of Ni, 0.0005-0.0050 pcnt of Ca, 0.0050-0.0500 pcnt of N, 0.0050 pcnt or less of O, less than 0.0050 pcnt of Ti, and less than 0.0050 pcnt of Nb, the balance being Fe and unavoidable impurities; and a structure having austenite as a matrix phase; the austenite having a grain size of 1 æm or greater and a standard deviation of 9 æm or less.
