Abstract

A method of preparing a solution containing colloidal particles which contain crystalline titanium dioxide comprising the step of reacting or other wise stabilising one or more hydrolysable titanium-containing compounds such as titanium tetraisopropoxide or TiCl4, with oxalic acid in a reaction medium. Additional steps include reducing the oxalate concentration by irradiating the solution with UV light. Also described are methods of preparing TiO2 containing products such as a TiO2-coated substrate, a TiO2-based photocatalyst and B phase TiO2.
