Bildene kan gjøres synlig på en skjerm eller analyseres ved hjelp av fotodetektorer. De to bilder har lyssterke og/eller forholdsvis lyssvake bildepunkter og har en symmetri ved at et lyssterkt bildepunkt i det første bilde kan tilordnes et lyssvakt bildepunkt i det annet bilde og omvendt. Slike informasjonsbærere (2) egner seg som sikkerhetselementer for dokumenter av alle slag, f eks. pengesedler, pass, identitetskort, kredittkort etc, idet minst en del av sikkerhetsinformasjonen under inkoherente belysningsforhold ikke er synlig.
