Abstract
Fremgangsmåte for stimulering av mikrobiell metanproduksjon i en petroleumbærende underjordisk formasjon omfattende (a) å analysere en eller flere komponenter av formasjonen for å bestemme karakteristika av formasjonsmiljøet; (b) å detektere nærværet av et mikrobielt konsortium, omfattende minst en metanogenisk mikroorganisme inni formasjonen; (c) å vurdere om formasjonsmikroorganismene er løpende aktive; (d) å bestemme om det mikrobielle konsortiet omfatter ett eller flere metanotrofiske mikroorganismer; (e) å karakterisere en eller flere mikroorganismer av konsortiet, minst ett av medlemmene av konsortiet er en metanogenisk mikroorganisme og å sammenlikne medlemmene av konsortiet med minst en kjent mikroorganisme som har en eller flere kjente fysiologiske og økologiske karakteristika, (f) å karakterisere ett eller flere metanotrofiske mikroorganismer i konsortiet (hvis til stede) og å sammenlikne medlemmene av konsortiet med minst en kjent mikroorganisme som har ett eller flere kjente fysiologiske og økologiske karakteristika; (g) å anvende informasjon oppnådd fra trinn (a) gjennom (e) for bestemmelsen av et økologisk miljø som fremmer in situ mikrobiell nedbrytning av petroleum og fremmer mikrobiell generering av metan ved minst en metanogenisk mikroorganisme av konsortiet; (h) å anvende informasjon oppnådd fra trinn (a) og (f) for, hvis metanotrofiske mikroorganismer er til stede, bestemmelsen av et økologisk miljø som inhiberer in situ mikrobiell nedbrytning av metan ved minst en metanotrofisk mikroorganisme i konsortiet; og (i) å modifisere formasjonsmiljøet basert på bestemmelser av trinn (g) og (h) for, hvis metanotrofiske mikroorganismer er til stede, å stimulere mikrobiell omdannelse av petroleum til metan i løpet av minimalisering av metandestruering ved adversprosesser.
