Abstract
Den foreliggende oppfinnelse vedrører et gen nyttig i en prosess for å øke den mikrobielle produksjon av karotenoider. Karotenoidene astaxanthin er distribuert i et vidt mangfold av organismer som for eksempel dyr, alger og mikroorganismer. Det har en kraftig antioksidativ egenskap overfor reaktive oksygenformer. Astaxanthin anvendes som et fargemiddel, særskilt innen industri for produksjon av røykt fisk, som for eksempel laks, fordi astaxanthin gir utpreget oransje-rød farging i dyrene og bidrar til attraktivitet for forbrukeren i markedet.
