Abstract
Det er tilveiebrakt en fremgangsmåte og apparatur for bestemmelse av den minimale inhiberende konsentrasjon av et antibiotikum for en mål-mikroorganisme. Fremgangsmåten innbefatter trinnene: (a) tilveiebringelse av et vekstmedium for mikroorganismer (14, 34); (b) tilveiebringelse av et følsomt reagens (17, 36) som innbefatter et antibiotikum blandet med en markør, idet markøren har et signal med en styrke som er proporsjonal med konsentrasjonen av markøren; (c) innlemming av reagenset i vekstmediet på en måte som frem- bringer en gradient av konsentrasjoner (18, 40) av antibiotikumet og markøren i vekstmediet; (d) inokulering av vekstmediet med mål-mikroorganismen; (e) inkubering av det inokulerte vekstmedium i et tidsrom som er tilstrekkelig til at mål-mikroorganismen kan vokse i en påvisbar mengde på en første del (20, 42) av vekstmediet; (f) bestemmelse av en vekstgrense (28, 48) mellom den første del av vekstmediet med påvisbar vekst av mål-mikroorganismen, og en andre del (24, 46) med hovedsakelig ingen påvisbar vekst av mål-mikroorganismen; (g) måling av signalstyrken ved vekstgrensen; og (h) bestemmelse av en minimal inhiberende konsentrasjon av antibiotikumet under anvendelse av den målte signalstyrke.
