Description
Foreliggende oppfinnelse angår en fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av dietere med formelen:
hvor R er en lineær eller forgrenet C1.18-alkyl-/ C3_18-c<y>k-loalkyl-, C6.18-aryl- eller C7.18-arylalkyl-gruppe, fortrinnsvis isopropyl.
Det er allerede kjent å fremstille dietere med formelen (I) i henhold til fremgangsmåten beskrevet i publisert europeisk patentsøknad EP-A-361.493.
Av mange årsaker passer imidlertid de ovennevnte fremgangsmåte ikke særlig godt for kommersiell anvendelse.
For eksempel beskrives det i den ovennevnte patent-søknad fremstilling av 2-isoamyl-2-isopropyl-1,3-dimetoksypro-pan i fire trinn med et totalt utbytte på 12%. Dessuten oppnås den endelige metylering av diolen ved anvendelse av svært kostbare reagenser.
Det er nå fuynnet en fremgangsmåte hvorved man kan oppnå eterne (I) i stort utbytte ved en forenklet prosess og ved anvendelse av billige reagenser.
Med foreliggende oppfinnelse tilveiebringes det således en fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av en dieter med formelen:
hvor R er et C^g-alkyl-, C3_18-cykloalkyl-, C6.18-<a>ryl- eller C7_18-aralkylradikal, kjennetegnet ved at den omfatter de føl-gende trinn:
a) et aldehyd med den generelle formel:
hvor R er som definert over, underkastes en aldolkon-densasjonsreaksjon som utføres i nærvær av en ionebytterharpiks med basisk funksjon, eller i form av et kvaternært ammoniumklorid, slik at det dannes et
umettet aldehyd med formelen:
b) det umettede aldehyd reduseres med hydrogen ved anvendelse av en katalysator i form av Pd båret på et inert medium suspendert i en alkoholisk oppløsning som inneholder mindre andeler av en vandig oppløsning av alkalisk bikarbonat, til en mettet forbindelse med formelen: c) denne mettede forbindelse omdannes til en diol med formelen:
og
d) diolen metyleres i nærvær av dimetylsulfoksid, til den tilsvarende dieter.
Omsetningen utføres med fordel i nærvær av dimetylsulfoksid (DMSO).
Reaksjonene som forekommer ved fremgangsmåten er som følger:
Aldolkondensasjonen utføres fortrinnsvis i nærvær av en ionebytterharpiks med svært basisk funksjon, f.eks. kvaternært ammoniumhydroksid. Et eksempel på en slik harpiks er "Amberlite IRA 910" (produsert av Rohm & Haas). Det er også mulig å anvende en harpiks i form av kvaternært ammoniumklorid blandet med en ekvivalent mengde NaOH.
Ved utførelse under disse betingelser er det mulig å begrense dannelsen av polykondensater. Selv når det opereres med svært lave omsetninger vil anvendelse av NaOH, slik som vist i eksempler 2 og 3, faktisk medføre at mengden uønskede polykondensater uttrykt i prosent av oppnådd aldehyd (II) blir henholdsvis 25,7% og 23,5%, sammenlignet med 5,8% i eksempel 1 (hvor anvendt harpiks var i OH-form) og 8,7% i eksempel 4 (hvor anvendt harpiks var i form av Cl"+NaOH).
Harpiksen kan resirkuleres gjentatte ganger uten vesentlig tap av aktivitet.
Aldehydet (II) reduseres selektivt med Pd på karbon-katalysator til (III) med praktisk talt kvantitative utbytter. Med samme mengde katalysator blir reduksjonstidene vesentlig redusert ved å tilsette små mengder vandige alkaliske bikar-bonatløsninger. Som vist i eksempler 5 og 6 går reduksjonstidene etter tilsetning av en vandig, mettet løsning av NaHC03 ned fra 80 timer til 1 time.
Ved metyleringen av diolen (IV) vil den oppnådde eter (I) ikke blande seg med dimetylsulfoksidet, slik at separasjon og gjenvinning av løsningsmidlet således forenkles.
En foretrukket utførelse av fremgangsmåten ifølge oppfinnelsen utføres på følgende måte: a) isovaleraldehyd varmes i nærvær av en ionebytterharpiks med basisk funksjonalitet (i form av OH"), eller alternativt en harpiks i form av kvaternært ammoniumklorid med samme mengde NaOH, til en temperatur mellom 70°C og 120°C mens vannet fjernes kontinuerlig etter som det dannes. Aldehydet (II) separeres fra den resulterende reaksjonsblanding ved hjelp av fraksjonert destillasjon, b) (II) hydrogeneres i nærvær av et løsningsmiddel ved værelsestemperatur og ved et trykk fra 1 til 10 ata,
fortrinnsvis fra 2 til 3 ata, i nærvær av en palla-
diumbasert katalysator og mindre mengder av en vandig løsning av alkalisk bikarbonat (1-10 vekt% av mettet løsning). Egnede løsningsmidler for anvendelse ved fremgangsmåten er alkoholer, slik som metanol, etanol, isopropanol og butanol. Fortrinnsvis anvendes metanol og etanol. Konsentrasjonen av (II) i løs-ningsmidlet kan variere fra 10 til 50%, fortrinnsvis fra 15 til 20%.
Egnede katalysatorer er finfordelt palladium, even-tuelt båret på et inert medium som silisiumoksid, aluminiumoksid, karbon eller bariumsulfat. Kata-lysatormengden kan variere fra 0,3 til 3 g Pd pr. kg av (II). Hydrogeneringshastigheten (ved samme trykk og temperatur) er proporsjonal med mengde anvendt katalysator. Alkoholløsningen av (III) blir etter frafiltrering av katalysatoren anvendt direkte i det
følgende trinn uten ytterligere rensing.
c) Alkoholløsningen av (III) varmes sammen med en vandig formaldehydløsning i nærvær av en uorganisk base
under tilbakeløpskjøling inntil fullstendig omsetning. Alkoholen gjenvinnes ved destillasjon og diolen (IV) separeres fra den vandige fase, hvori den knapt er løselig, gjøres vannfri og anvendes så i det føl-gende trinn uten ytterligere rensing.
Egnede baser for omsetningen er NaOH, KOH, Na2C03 og K2C03. CH20 tilsettes til aldehydet (III) i et molart forhold på minst 2:1, fortrinnsvis i et forhold på
3:1. d) Den urensede diol (IV) løses i DMSO og metyleres med CH3C1 i nærvær av NaOH ved atmosfæretrykk ved en temperatur mellom 30 og 40°C. Anvendelse av finfordelt NaOH foretrekkes siden det gir hurtigere omsetning. Eteren (I) er uløselig i DMSO og etter frafiltrering av saltene separeres den enkelt fra løsningsmidlet og rektifiseres. Etter dehydrering (tilsetning av toluen og azeotropisk destillasjon av toluen/H20-blandingen for eksempel) kan DMSO resirkuleres.
Eksempel 1
Fremstilling av 2-isopropyl-5-metyl-2-heksenal [(II), R = (CH3)2CH] .
2070 g isovaleraldehyd og 260 cm<3> "Amberlite IRA 910" harpiks (produsert av Rohm & Haas) i OH-form (fremstilt av Cl" formen ved vasking med NaOH inntil Cl" ikke lengre forekom i vaskevannet, deretter vasking med H20 inntil det var nøytrali-sert) ble varmet under tilbakeløpskjøling.
Vannet som ble dannet, ble fjernet kontinuerlig med et Marcusson destillasjonsapparat. Etter 3 timer var ca. 260 cm3 H20 samlet opp og temperaturen i kokeren hadde gått fra opprinnelig 79°C til 115°C. Harpiksen ble filtrert fra og reaksjonsproduktet fraksjonert under vakuum. Følgende produkter ble oppnådd: 444 g isovaleraldehyd som kan resirkuleres, en mellomliggende fraksjon på 50 g, en fraksjon på 1300 g som i det vesentlige besto av (II) (kokepunkt 85-90°C/20 mmHg) og 75 g av en ikke-destillerbar rest av polykondensat.
Det gasskromatograf-bestemte innhold av (II) var 97%
(cis- og transisomerer i et omtrentlig forhold på 20:80).
Mengde sideprodukter med høyt kokepunkt var 5,8% av det oppnådde aldehyd (II).
Eksempel 2 (Sammenligningseksempel)
Fremgangsmåten og bestanddelene i eksempel 1 ble anvendt, unntatt at 20,7 g NaOH løst i 250 cm<3> H20 ble anvendt i stedet for harpiksen. Etter fraksjonering ble det oppnådd 1233 g aldehyd (II) og 317 g av en rest. Prosent rest med hensyn til produktet (II) var 25,7%.
Eksempel 3 (Sammenligningseksempel)
Fremgangsmåten og bestanddelene i eksempel 2 ble anvendt, unntatt at 11,3 g NaOH løst i 350 cm<3> H20 ble anvendt. Reaksjonsblandingen ble holdt under tilbakeløpskjøling i 5 timer (maksimumstemperatur i kokeren var 85°C). Den organiske fase ble skilt fra og destillert under vakuum. Resultatet ble 980 g av et lett produkt som hovedsakelig besto av isovaleraldehyd, 811 g av (II) og 191,1 g av en rest. Prosent rest var 23,5% med hensyn til det ønskede produkt (II).
Eksempel 4
1400 g isovaleraldehyd og 150 cm<3> våt "Amberlite IRA 910" harpiks i Cl"-form og 5 g NaOH løst i 100 cm<3> H20 ble opp-varmet under tilbakeløpskjøling med et Marcusson-apparat slik at vannet som ble dannet under prosessen destillerte av. Etter 3 timer hadde temperaturen nådd 90°C. Ytterligere 3 g NaOH løst i 30 cm<3> H20 ble tilsatt og destillasjonen fortsatt i 5 timer inntil en temperatur på 120°C var nådd. Reaksjonsmassen ble så avkjølt til 80°C og fortynnet med 200 cm<3> H20. Den vandige fase og harpiksen ble så skilt, og det urensede reak-sjonsprodukt ble destillert.
Resultatet var 110 g lette produkter som hovedsakelig besto av isovaleraldehyd, 1025 g aldehyd (II) og 90 g rest. Prosent rest var 8,7% med hensyn til det ønskede produkt (II).
Eksempel 5
Fremstilling av 2-isopropyl-5-metylheksanal [(III), R = (CH3)2CH-] .
I en to-halset glasskolbe utstyrt med omrører ble det fylt 10 g av aldehydet fra eksempel 1 løst i 70 cm<3> etanol, 1 cm3 av en mettet vandig løsning av NaHC03 og 0,25 g av 10% Pd på karbon. Apparaturen ble spylt med nitrogen, deretter med hydrogen og så forbundet med en gradert byrette fylt med hydrogen. Blandingen ble holdt under omrøring ved normalt trykk og ved værelsestemperatur.
Absorpsjonen av hydrogen stoppet på den støkiome-triske verdi etter 60 min.
Eksempel 6 (Sammenligningseksempel)
Eksempel 5 ble gjentatt, men uten å tilsette NaHC03-løsningen. Absorpsjonen var fullstendig først etter 80 timer.
Eksempel 7
En løsning av 1300 g aldehyd [(II), R = (CH3)2CH] i 7 liter etanol og 80 cm<3> mettet NaHC03-løsning ble hydrogenert i en 20 liters autoklav i nærvær av 25 g av 10% Pd på karbon.
Forsøket ble gjennomført med et begynnende H2-trykk på 3 ata som ble gjenopprettet så snart trykket hadde falt til 1,5 ata. Absorpsjonen var fullstendig etter 1 time. Katalysatoren ble filtrert fra og etanolløsningen anvendt ved neste forsøk. Innholdet av aldehyd [(III), R = (CH3)2CH] beregnet ved gasskromatografi var 97%.
Eksempel 8
Fremstilling av 2-isopropyl-2-(3-metylbutyl)-l,3-di-hydroksypropan [(IV), R = (CH3)2CH].
Aldehydløsningen i eksempel 7 ble varmet under til-bakeløpskjøling med en løsning av 690 g K2C03 i 1700 cm<3> H20 og 2200 cm<3> 40% vandig CH20 i 7 timer. Etanolen ble destillert av ved å bringe temperaturen i kokeren til 97-98°C. Den organiske fase ble skilt fra, vasket med varmt vann inntil den var nøy-tralisert, og oljefasen ble dehydratisert ved hjelp av azeotropisk destillasjon med toluen.
Etter avdampning av toluen under vakuum ble det oppnådd 1455 g av en fargeløs olje [(IV), R = (CH3)2CH].
Produktet trengte ikke ytterligere rensing og ble anvendt som det var i den følgende reaksjon.
Eksempel 9
Fremstilling av 2-isopropyl-2-(3-metylbutyl)-l,3-di-metoksypropan [(I), R = (CH3)2CH].
Diolen oppnådd i eksempel 8 ble oppløst i 3,5 liter dimetylsulfoksid i en kolbe utstyrt med en væskelås for å slippe ut gass, en mekanisk bladrører, termometer og gassinn-føringsrør. 460 g finfordelt NaOH ble tilsatt under omrøring og kjøling i et ytre bad for å unngå at temperaturen skulle gå over 30"C. CH3C1 ble tilsatt den vel omrørte massen mens temperaturen ble holdt mellom 30 og 35°C, idet tilsetningen ble regulert slik at CH3C1 ikke forsvant gjennom utløpsventi-len. Etter 2,5 timer ble ytterligere 290 g finfordelt NaOH tilsatt og etter 5 timer ytterligere 415 g. Etter ca. 8 timer stoppet absorpsjonen av CH3C1. Den totale mengde forbrukt CH3C1 var 925 g. Etter 10 timer viste en gasskromatografisk kontroll av den resulterende reaksjonsblanding tilstedeværelse av 98,8% dieter [(I), R = (CH3)2CH] og bare 0,1% monoeter. Reaksjonsmassen ble filtrert og saltene vasket med heksan. Den øverste fase ble skilt fra DMSO, heksanet fra vaskingen ble tilsatt og det hele ble vasket gjentatte ganger med H20 og så dehydratisert over vannfritt Na2S04. Etter fjerning av heksan oppnådde man ved destillasjon en enkel fraksjon på 1335 g (I) med kokepunkt 105-106°C/15 mmHg. Innholdet av dieter fastsatt ved gasskromatografi var 99,5%. Utbyttet etter de tre trinn reduksjon, Cannizzaro og metylering, var 77,7%.
Etter azeotropisk dehydrering med toluen kunne DMSO resirkuleres.
Eksempler 10 - 12
Henholdsvis kondensasjon, hydrogenering, Cannizzaros kondensasjon og eterisering ble utført med råstoffene vist i tabell 1 med de samme fremgangsmåter som beskrevet i eksemplene 1, 7, 8 og 9.
Claims (2)
1. Fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av en dieter med formelen:
hvor R er et C^g-alkyl-, <C>3_18-cykloalkyl-, C6.18-aryl- eller C7.18-aralkylradikal,
karakterisert ved at den omfatter de følgende trinn: a) et aldehyd med den generelle formel:
hvor R er som definert over, underkastes en aldolkon-densasjonsreaksjon som utføres i nærvær av en ionebytterharpiks med basisk funksjon, eller i form av et kvaternært ammoniumklorid, slik at det dannes et umettet aldehyd med formelen: b) det umettede aldehyd reduseres med hydrogen ved anvendelse av en katalysator i form av Pd båret på et inert medium suspendert i en alkoholisk oppløsning som inneholder mindre andeler av en vandig oppløsning av alkalisk bikarbonat, til en mettet forbindelse med formelen: c) denne mettede forbindelse omdannes til en diol med formelen:
og d) diolen metyleres i nærvær av dimetylsulfoksid, til den tilsvarende dieter.
2. Fremgangsmåte ifølge krav 1, karakterisert ved at det som aldehyd med den generelle formel R-CH2-CHO anvendes et aldehyd hvor R er isopropyl, etyl, butyl, isobutyl, cykloheksyl eller cyklopentyl.
