Description
Titandioxydpigment med forbedrede støvingsegenskaper.
Oppfinnelsen angår belagte titandioxydpigmenter med forbedrede stovingsegenskaper.
oDet er blitt foreslått å belegge titandioxydpigmenter med kjem-iske forbindelser, f.eks. siliconer, for å forbedre deres dispergerbarhet i organiske midler, f.eks. plaster. Pigmenter belagt med de hittil foreslåtte materialer har imidlertid dårlige "stbvings"-egenskaper, dvs. at de vil dispergeres sterkt i luft under f.eks. fremstillingen av det belagte pigment eller innarbeidelsen av pigmentet i. plaster. Stoving er meget uheldig fordi den forer til tap av pigment og også kan forårsake farer som er forbundet med stbv-holdige atmosfærer.
Oppfinnelsen er hasert på den erkjennelse at ved innarbeidelsen av en ester i et belegg av siliconmateriale på et titandioxydpigment minskes pigmentets, stovningsegenskaper sterkt uten at- dette går ut over det belagte pigments dispergerbarhet i plaster.
Det tilveiebringes derfor ved oppfinnelsen et titandioxydpigment med forbedrede stovingsegenskaper og som eventuelt er blitt belagt med ett eller flere hydratiserte uorganiske oxyder, og titandioxydpigmentet er særpreget ved at dets pigmentpartikler er belagt med et materiale som foruten minst ett silicon inneholder minst en ester, idet esteren eller esterne er en alifatisk ester eller di-- ester inneholdende 6 eller flere carbonatomer, en aromatisk ester eller diester eller et trialkyl- eller triarylfosfat.
De behandlede titandioxydpigmenter ifolge oppfinnelsen kan innarbeides i plaster, f.eks. polystyren og polypropylen, og i mal-inger og lakker, f.eks. alkydmalinger og acrylmalinger.
Esteren bor anvendes i flytende form. Under vanlige betingel-ser faste estere kan anvendes i opplosning i et egnet opplosnings-middel, f.eks. aceton eller ethylalkohol. Esteren bor ha et tilstrekkelig lavt damptrykk til at den ikke i vesentlig grad vil.fjer-nes fra pigmentet når dette torkes ved ca. 120°C, og for at plaster inneholdende de behandlede pigmenter skal kunne anvendes for sproyte-stbping ved en temperatur av ca. 200°C, bor esteren fortrinnsvis ha et tilstrekkelig lavt damptrykk og også være stabil ved disse temper-aturer.
Av egnede estere kan f.eks. nevnes butyl s.tearat, dimethyl-fthalat, dibutylfthalat, dioctylfthalat, dibenzylfthalat, difenyl-fthalat, tributylfosfat, tricresylfosfat og estere avledet fra adipin-syre, idet dioctylfthalat er foretrukket. En blanding av estere kan anvendes ifolge oppfinnelsen, f.eks. en blanding av hvilke som helst av to eller flere av de ovenfor angitte estere.
o En av hovedanvendelsene for de foreliggende pigmenter er innen området pigmenterte plaster. Det bor bemerkes at for denne og lignende anvendelser bor. esteren være i det vesentlige uopplos.elig i vann og ikke sterkt farvet.
De ifolge oppfinnelsen anvendte siliconer er generelt i hand-elen tilgjengelige polysiloxaner, f.eks. alkyl- eller arylsubsti-tuerte polysiloxaner, og mer spesielt methylhydrogenpolysiloxan, fenylhydrogehpolysiloxan, dirnethylpolysiloxan og difenylpolysiloxan. Gyliske polysiloxaner kan også anvendes. Dirnethylpolysiloxan er foretrukket.. En "blanding av siliconer kan anvendes ifolge oppfinnelsen, f.eks. en blanding av hvilke som helst av to eller flere av de ovenfor angitte siliconer.
Titandioxydpigmentet kan være f.eks. anatas eller rutil fremstilt ved sulfat- eller kloridprosessen. Pigmentpartiklene sorteres fortrinnsvis for å fjerne eventuelle grove partikler for de belegges. Om bnskes kan partiklene dessuten utsettes for en overflate-behandling , f.eks. for å fjerne eventuelle forurensninger for de belegges.
Esteren og siliconer kan påfores partiklene samtidig eller adskilt, og behandlingsrekkefolgen er ikke av viktighet. De kan påfores i
form av vannemulsjoner eller oppløsninger i organiske opplosnings-midler. Dersom de skal påfores samtidig, kan de anvendes i form av en opplosning i et felles opplbsningsmiddel. I enkelte tilfeller kan det være mulig å påfore esteren og/eller siliconet fra dampfase.
Den samlede vekt av silicon pluss ester er fortrinnsvis 0,1 - 5%, basert på vekten av de ubelagte titandioxydpartikler. Vektfor-holdet mellom ester og silicon kan variere fra 1:10 til 10:1, men siliconet og esteren anvendes fortrinnsvis i omtrentlig de samme vektmengder.
Det er ofte onskelig å belegge titandioxydpigmentpartiklene med f.eks. ett eller flere hydratiserte uorganiske oxyder, f.eks. hydratisert siliciumdioxyd eller aluminiumoxyd. i dette tilfelle vil behandlingen med ester og silicon utfores efter at partiklene er blitt belagt med f.eks. det hydratiserte uorganiske oxyd.
Det er gunstig å sortere pigmentpartiklene og belegge disse med ett eller flere hydratiserte uorganiske oxyder, fulgt av vasking
for å fjerne eventuelle opploselige stoffer og behandling med siliconet og esteren, hvorefter partiklene torkes og males. De med de hydratiserte uorganiske oxyder belagte pigmentpartikler kan også torkes og/eller delvis kalsineres for å dehydratisere de hydratiserte oxyder og, om onskes, males for de behandles med siliconet og esteren, enten i opplosning eller i dampfase.
Eksempel 1
300 g av en vasket oppslemning av titandioxydpigment belagt med aluminiumoxyd ble kraftig omrbrt mens 1,8 ml dirnethylpolysiloxan ble tilsatt. Oppslemningen ble derefter filtrert, tbrket og mikro-
pulverisert for fremstilling av pigment A.
Et lignende pigment B ble fremstilt ved den ovenfor angitte fremgangsmåte, men méd den unntagelse at 1,8 ml dioctylfthalat ble tilsatt efter tilsetningen av dimethylpolysiloxanet. (De anvendte vektmengder av ester og silicon tilsvarte begge ca. 0,6$, basert på vekten av pigmentet).
' Hvert pigment ble derefter i en tumleanordning blandet med polystyrenkorn (2 vektdeler pigment pr. 200 vektdeler polystyren), og en skiveformet plate ble fremstilt fra den dannede blanding ved sproytestoping.
Begge pigmenter A og B kunne tilfredsstillende dispergeres i polystyren, men pigment B ifolge oppfinnelsen stovet betraktelig mindre under håndtering og blanding med plastbestanddelene.
Eksempel 2
Et pigment ble fremstilt ved fremgangsmåten ifolge eksempel 1 idet det ble anvendt 1,8 ml dirnethylpolysiloxan fulgt av 1,8 ml butylstearat. Pigmentet hadde god dispergerbarhet i polystyren og stovet meget lite.
Eksempel . 1 (Sammenligning)
Et pigment ble ved anvendelse av fremgangsmåten ifolge eksempel 1 behandlet med 1,8 ml fenylhydrogenpolysiloxan. Det fremstilte pigment hadde god dispergerbarhet i polystyren,men stovet sterkt.
Eksempel h
Et pigment ble behandlet ved fremgangsmåten ifolge eksempel 1 med 1,8 ml fenylhydrogenpolysiloxan fulgt, av 1,8 ml dioctylfthalat. Det behandlede pigment hadde tilfredsstillende' dispergerbarhet i polystyren og gode stovingsegenskaper, dvs. at det forekom bare meget liten stoving.
Claims (5)
1. Titandioxydpigment med forbedrede stovingsegenskaper og som eventuelt er blitt belagt med ett eller flere hydratiserte uorganiske oxyder, karakterisert ved at pigmentpartiklene er belagt med et materiale som foruten minst ett silicon inneholder minst en ester, idet esteren eller esterne er en alifatisk ester eller diester inneholdende 6 eller flere carbonatomer, en aromatisk ester eller diester eller et trialkyl- eller triarylfosfat.
2. Titandioxydpigment ifolge krav 1, karakterisert ved at pigmentpartiklene er belagt med et materiale omfattende et silicon og dioctylfthalat.
3. Titandioxydpigment ifolge krav 1 eller 2, karakterisert ved at det er belagt med silicon pluss ester i en samlet vekt av 0,1 - 5%, basert på vekten av de ubelagte titandioxydpartikler. k.
Titandioxydpigment ifolge krav 1-3?karakterisert ved at det er belagt med silicon og ester i et vektfor-hold av 1:10-10:1.
5. Titandioxydpigment ifolge krav h, karakterisert ved at det er belagt med siliconet og esteren i omtrentlig de samme vektmengder.
