Description
Fremgangsmåte til avmetning av dobbeltbindinger i
polyolefiner.
Det er kjent at man i henhold til den såkalte lavtrykks-polymeriseringsmetode kan fremstille høymolekylære polyolefiner med gunstige egenskaper. Disse produkter lar seg videre bearbeide til f.eks. tråder, folier og andre formlegemer. Ved siden av sin store styrke, motstandsevne overfor kjemikalier og andre fordelaktige egenskaper, oppviser polyolefinene imidlertid en lav stabilitet overfor oksydative angrep, særlig når polyolefinet samtidig utsettes for varme eller UV-bestråling. De beskadigeiser som polyolefinene får under slike betingelser, skyldes bl.a. dobbeltbindinger i kjedemolekylene. Etter de erfaringer man har hittil, synes det ikke å være mulig å unngå dannelsen av dobbeltbindinger ved polymeriseringen. Derfor har man anstrengt seg for å gi det ferdige polymerisat en etterbehandling, hvorved oppnås en metning av dobbeltbindingene og dermed en økning av polyolefinenes stabilitet.
For dette formål har man gjennomført en behandling med silisiumforbindelser, hvortil det. var bundet minst ett H-atom umiddelbart på Si-atomet. I henhold til denne kjente metode må polyolefinene løses opp og røres i lengere tid sammen med silisiumforbindelsene og en egnet katalysator. Bortsett fra at det til dette trenges betrakte-lige mengder oppløsnings- og fellingsmidler, krever metoden meget arbeide, idet man etter den egentlige behandling må foreta en utfel-ling og rensing av polymerisatet. Ifølge et alternativ kan behandlingen imidlertid også foretas på den måte at polyolefinet blandes med en silisiumforbindelse ved høyere temperaturer, f.eks. 250-300°C, i et ekstruderingsapparat. Ved denne fremgangsmåte kan man ikke oppnå noen jevn stabilisering. Dessuten finnes overskuddet av silisium-forbindelsen fortsatt i polymerisatet etter behandlingen, hvilket må sees som en ulempe.
I henhold til en annen fremgangsmåte forsøker man å løse problemet ved en hydrogenering av dobbeltbindingen. Polyolefinet blir i oppløsning, emulsjon eller suspensjon sammen med hydrogen ført gjennom et hydreringsapparat, hvori det blir bragt sammen med en egnet hydrogeneringskatalysator. Metoden krever ganske ny apparatur og tid, og er ikke egnet for behandling av store polyolefinmengder. Endelig har metoden også den ulempe, at hydreringskatalysatoren må fjernes, fordi den ellers ville forstyrre ved polyolefinets videre bearbeidelse.
I US-patent nr. 2.333.280 omtales PVC som ved siden av et mykningsmiddel inneholder et uorganisk eller organisk hypokloritt. Disse tilsetninger hindrer avspaltning av saltsyre. I dette patent heter det at ved siden av tilblandingen av stabilisatoren er også
en behandling med hypokloritter av det allerede for en varmebehandling underkastede, åpenbart termisk beskadigede, misfargede PVC mulig og fører til en avfarving. Det er sannsynlig at effekten ved denne spesielle behandling overensstemmende med dette US-patent ikke beror på en tilleiring til dobbeltbindinger, men det må antas at det her inntrer en "blekevirkning" som er å tilbakeføre på en innvirkning av avbygningsproduktene. I henhold til oppfinnelsen dreier det seg ikke om behandling av et allerede beskadiget og misfarget polyolefin, men forbedring av den polymeres stabilitet således at det ikke kan
inntre beskadigelse.
Oppfinnelsen vedrører en fremgangsmåte til metning av dobbeltbindinger i kjedemolekyler av polyolefiner ved oppvarmning av en dispersjon av renset polyolefinpulver i et inert hydrokarbon eller et lavere alifatisk alkohol, ved temperaturer mellom 20°C og dispergeringsmidlets kokepunkt i nærvær av 0,1 - 1 vektprosent (referert til polyolefin) av en forbindelse som er i stand til tilleiring til dobbeltbindingen, frasugning av dispergeringsmidlet og flere gangers ettervasking av polyolefinet med dispergeringsmidlet, idet fremgangsmåten erkarakterisert vedat man som tilleiringsdyktig forbindelse anvender et organisk hypokloritt og foretar oppvarmningen under innvirkning av UV-bestråling i løpet av 30-60 min.
Som organiske hypokloriter egner seg alle tertiære hypokloriter som tertiært butylhypoklorit eller t-heptyl-hypoklorit eller sekundære hypokloriter med en aromatisk rest, f.eks. fenyletyl-hypoklorid.
Som dispergeringsmiddel kan anvendes:
Inerte hydrokarboner som pentan, heksan, heptan, bensin, benzen, toluen, cylen, dekalin, tetralin, dieselolje og også lavere alifetiske alkoholer som metanol, etanol, n-propanol, isopropanol og butanol.
Som dispergeringsmiddel foretrekkes lett flyktige for-bindelser, idet disse lettere lar seg fjerne fra den polymere og deretter lettere lar seg regenerere.
Hvilke temperaturer man under de enkelte behandlinger skal anvende, avhenger av driftsbetingelsene. Jo høyere arbeids-temperatur, desto raskere kan behandlingen avsluttes. Hvis man til-sikter en forkortelse av behandlingstiden, kan man også arbeide under forhøyet trykk og tilsvarende forhøyede temperaturer, nemlig opp til dispergeringsmidlets kokepunkt under det herskende trykk.
Overfor de kjente metoder frembyr foreliggende arbeidsmåte den fordel at behandlingen av den polymere kan foretas umiddelbart i tilknytning til rensingen, i den samme apparatur hvor rensingen ble gjennomført. Samtlige av de dispergeringsmidler som er anvende-lige til fremgangsmåten er også oppløsningsmidler som kan brukes ved rensingen. Det overskytende behandlingsmiddel kan fjernes ved avsugning og den polymere kan lett renses ved vasking med dispergeringsmiddel. Det er ikke nødvendig å rense polymerisatet for en heterogen katalysator, som ved den ovennevnte hydrogeneringsmetode.
Fremgangsmåten forklares ved hjelp av eksempler: I de
i tabellen med 1 til-4 betegnede forsøk ble det anvendt et poly-propylen som er fremstilt ved polymerisasjon av propylen i nærvær av aluminiumtrietyl og titantriklorid som katalysator og etter avsluttet polymerisasjon renset med heksan og deretter med metanolisk saltsyre, deretter vasket nøytralt og blitt tørket. Forsøkene 5 og 6 ble gjennomført med poly-4-metylpenten-l.
I en med rører og kvikksølvdyppelampe (70 watt) utstyrt
1 liters tohalset kolbe dispergeres under nitrogenatmosfære 100 g polyolefin i 600 ml dispergeringsmiddel. Så tilsettes tilleirings-midlet til dispersjonen. Røreren settes igang og UV-lampen tennes.
På grunn av lampens varmeutvikling avkjøles kolben utenfra med vann. For å hindre en for sterk avbygning, blir lampen slått av i 5 min. etter å ha brent i 2 min. Derpå suges den polymere fri for væske, vaskes 2 ganger med 100 ml dispergeringsmiddel, tørkes, hvoretter den polymere er ferdig til stabilitetsmåling.
Eksemplene 5 og 6 er utført med poly-4-metylpenten-l, som er behandlet som ovenfor beskrevet (eksempel 5). Eksempel 6 gjelder for ubehandlet polymerisat <
<+>^ Til bestemmelse av prøvenes stabilitet blir 30 g polymerpulver og en stabilisatorblanding bestående av 0,03 g dilauryltiodi-propionat og 0,03 g 4,4'-tio-bis-(3-metyl-6-tertiært-butylfenol)
(0,1 vektprosent) malt 30 min. i en kulemølle. 12 g av denne blanding blir presset til en 1 mm tykk plate i en platepresse under 35 atmosfæres trykk og ved 170°C. Platene blir skåret i 3-4 mm brede, 30-40 mm lange strimler, hvorav 3 g plaseres i et reagensrør som står i en aluminiumsblokk ved 200 + 1,5°C, som videre er forbundet med en Og-byrette. Ved kontroll av Og-volumet bestemmes det antall minutter som forløper innen 0^opptas spontant. Denne induksjons-
periode for oksydasjon av polymere ved 200° i ren 02kan tjene som målestokk for bestandigheten ved romtemperatur. Med poly-4-metyl-penten-(l) ble målingen utført ved 230°C. Det ble anvendt stabili-sert, upresset pulver.

- Fremgangsmåte til metning av dobbeltbindinger i kjedemolekyler av polyolefiner ved oppvarmning av en dispersjon av renset polyolefinpulver i et inert hydrokarbon eller en lavere alifatisk alkohol ved temperaturer mellom 20°C og dispergeringsmidlets kokepunkt i nærvær av 0,1 til 1 vektprosent (referert til polyolefin) av en forbindelse som er istand til tilleiring til dobbeltbindingen, frasugning av dispergeringsmidlet og flere gangers ettervasking av polyolefinet med dispergeringsmidlet,karakterisert vedat man som tilleiringsdyktig forbindelse anvender et organisk hypoklorit og foretar oppvarmningen under innvirkning av UV-stråler i løpet av 30 til 60 minutter under omrøring.
