Slij tvaste bekledingssamenstelling.
De uitvinding heeft betrekking op slijtvaste bekledings-samenstellingen en meer in het bijzonder op slijtvaste bekledingssamenstellingen met goede weerstand tegen het vormen van haarscheurtjes op zowel substraten die een 5 hoge affiniteit voor water hebben als wel die een lage affiniteit voor water hebben.
Het Amerikaanse octrooischrift 3.894.881 beschrijft een bekledingssamenstelling van afzonderlijk gehydrolyseerde silicium-bevattende materialen die later worden verenigd 10 en dan worden gehard op een substraat. Het materiaal bevat ook een metaalzout als katalysator.
Het Amerikaanse octrooischrift 4.064.308 heeft betrekking op een slijtvaste, beslaan-verhinderende bekleding uit polyvinylalcohol die is verknoopt door een mengsel 15 van zirkoniumnitraat en formaldehyde.
Door aanvraagster werd een verbeterd type slijtvaste bekledingssamenstelling ontwikkeld die een superieure weerstand vertoont tegen vorming van haarscheurtjes op water-absorberende substraten. Water-absorberende substraten 20 omvatten materialen zoals poly(diethyleenglycol-bisallyl- carbonaat), cellulosepropionaat en cellulose-acetaat-butyraat, hetgeen voorkeursmaterialen zijn voor lenzen zoals contactlenzen. Andere gebruikelijke lensmaterialen, zoals gewone polycarbonaatharsen of polymethylmethacrylaat, 25 absorberen niet voldoende water voor het scheppen van haarscheurtjes-vormingsproblemen onder normale omgevingsomstandigheden. Materialen die een hoge affiniteit voor water hebben, zoals de hierboven genoemde, vertonen echter dimensionele veranderingen met veranderingen in vochtigheid.
30 Deze dimensionele veranderingen resulteerden tot nu toe 790 54 12 - > , ...................................... " 2 in vorming van haarscheurtjes van de slijtvaste bekleding, hetgeen door aanvraagster werd overwonnen door gebruikmaking van een gelijktijdig.gehydrolyseerd mengsel van tetra-ethylorthosilicaat, bepaalde silanen en formaldehyd.
5 Het formaldehyd vergroot de buigzaamheid van de bekleding waardoor het mogelijk wordt dat deze een cyclische vochtigheidsproef doorstaat. Hoewel het voornaamste voordeel van de onderhavige uitvinding een slijtvaste bekleding is die in staat is tot het weerstaan van dimen-10 sionele veranderingen indien aangebracht op een water- absorberend substraat, is de bekleding eveneens bruikbaar bij substraten die niet een hoge affiniteit voor water hebben. De samenstellingen volgens de uitvinding bestaan uit 20 tot 50 gew. % tetra-ethylorthosilicaat, 37 tot 60 15 gew. % van een silaan gekozen uit methyltrimethoxysilaan, dimethyldimethoxysilaan, ethyltriethoxysilaan, diethyl-diethoxysilaan, ethyltrimethoxysilaan en methyltriethoxy-silaan, en 15 tot 35 gew. % formaline (37 %’s formaldehyd-oplossing).
20 VOORBEELD I
Een oplossing van 256,7 g tetraethylorthosilicaat, 513,5 g methyltrimethoxysilaan en 256,7 g formaline (37 % formaldehyd) werd heftig geroerd terwijl een oplossing van 136,9 g water, 68,5 g azijnzuur en 308,1 g van een 25 50/50 mengsel van isopropanol en n-butanol langzaam werd toegevoegd uit een druppeltrechter teneinde te vermijden dat de temperatuur boven 32°C steeg door de exotherme reactie. Nadat de waterige alcohol-zuuroplossing was toegevoegd, werd het reactiemengsel afgedekt en verouderd 30 gedurende ongeveer 5 dagen.
Tien CR-39 £poly(diethyleenglycol-bisallylcarbonaat)J lenzen werden gehydrolyseerd en gedompeld in de oplossing en daaruit gehaald met een snelheid van 25 cm per minuut.
De beklede lenzen werden gehard in een circulerende 35 luchtoven bij een temperatuur van 104°C gedurende 8 uren.
Alle tien lenzen doorstonden drie cyclussen van een vochtig- 790 5 412 3 " 't heidsproef, bestaande uit het houden van de lenzen gedurende 8 uren op een temperatuur van 71°C bij 95 % relatieve vochtigheid en daarna 16 uren bij kamertemperatuur en vochtigheid.
5 VOORBEELD II
Acht CR-39 lenzen werden gehydrolyseerd en door onderdompeling bekleed in een slijtvaste bekledingssamen-stelling, geleverd door Dow-Corning Corporation, aangeduid met het codenummer Q6312 en beschreven in het Amerikaanse 10 octrooischrift 3.986.997, onder toepassing van de in dit octrooischri'ft beschreven procedure en gehard. Deze acht lenzen werden onderworpen aan de bovenbeschreven cyclische vochtigheidsproef en alle acht lenzen faalden na de tweede cyclus.

De werkwijze voor het bereiden van het bekledings-materiaal volgens voorbeeld I werd herhaald, behalve dat de hoeveelheid tetraethylorthosilicaat werd gewijzigd teneinde 33 gew. % te leveren en de hoeveelheid methyl-20 trimethoxysilaan werd gewijzigd teneinde 42 gew. % te leveren. carbonaatlenzen die werden bekleed met het materiaal nadat dit was verouderd gedurende ongeveer 5 dagen, toonden geen haarscheurtjesvorming na drie cyclussen van de vochtigheids-25 proef.

Claims (4)
1. Slijtvaste bekledingssamenstelling, met het kenmerk, dat deze bestaat uit het hydrolyseprodukt van (a) 20 tot 50 gew. % tetraethylorthosilicaat, (b) 37 tot 60 gew. % van een silaan gekozen uit methyltrimethoxysilaan, 5 dimethyldimethoxysilaan, ethyltriethoxysilaan, diethyldi- ethoxysilaan, ethyltrimethoxysilaan en methyltriethoxysilaan, en (c) 15 tot 35 gew. % formaline.
2. Bekledingssamenstelling volgens conclusie 1, geschikt voor substraten met een relatief hoge affiniteit voor water, 10 met het kenmerk, dat de hoeveelheid van (a) ongeveer 25 gew. %, van (b) ongeveer 50 gew. % en van (c) ongeveer 25 gew. % bedraagt.
3. Bekledingssamenstelling volgens conclusie 1, geschikt voor substraten met relatief lage affiniteit voor water, 15 met het kenmerk, dat de hoeveelheid van (a) ongeveer 33 gew. %, van (b) ongeveer 42 gew. % en van (c) ongeveer 25 gew. % bedraagt.
4. Bekledingssamenstelling volgens conclusie 2 of 3, met het kenmerk, dat het silaan van (b) methyl- 20 trimethoxysilaan is. 790 5 412
