Abstract

The invalid chair has a frame and two sets of wheels, together with a seat, sloping backrest, and arm and footrests. Each wheel is independently sprung on the frame, and backrest, seat and armrests can be detachable from it. The axle of each wheel can be joined to a spring-loaded lever, pivoting in the frame. The length of each spring can be adjustable, and the wheels can be interchangeable. The sections of the frame can be rigidly joined together, and the backrest can be arranged to tilt on an axis sliding in the plane of the seat. The footrest can be in two parts on opposite sides of the centre line and independently adjustable. Plungers may be substituted for the springs.
