Abstract

A multipurpose hand-cart comprises a front wheel frame 13, a pair of rear wheel frames 14, and pair of handlebar stems with handlebars, a pair of front wheels 15 and a pair of rear wheels 16. The rear wheel frames 14 are connected to the front wheel frame 13 by two foldable connections 21 so that the hand-cart can be collapsed to minimize space occupation when not in use. A seat 26 is transversely mounted on the front frame. A tray 19 and a basket 20 are detachably secured to the handcart at suitable locations. A pair of brake control levers 17 are attached to the handlebars and a hand brake 18 is secured to the front wheel frame 13 to respectively control the running of the rear wheels 16. <IMAGE>

Description

A MULTIPURPOSE HAND-CART The present invention relates to a multipurpose hand-cart and more particularly to a hand-cart for the lame, convalescents, etc., which has a seat to sit, a brake mechanism to stop its motion, and a basket to hold somethings.
Conventionally a wheel chair which is used as a support in walking by the lame, convalescents, etc., is generally comprised of a tubular frame on wheels. This type of wheel chair can only be used to help the lame, convalescents to ualk. Actually it is not satisfactory in use to the invalid people. During one's daily life or while going outside, an invalid people may have to carry with oneself drugs, personal effects or a lot of some other products. A conventional wheel chair does not have a structure for keeping somethings. Further, while one gets tired during walking, a conventional wheel chair can not be used as a standing chair to sit. It is indeed very important to thoroughly consider the factors of safety, stability, simplicity and convenience while designing an equipment for the lame or convalescents.
The present invention has been accomplished under the circumstances in view. It is one object of the present invention to provide a wheel chair which is foldable to minimize space occupation when not in use. It is another object of the present invention to provide a wheel chair which is stable and safe in use. It is still another object of the present invention to provide a wheel chair which has a brake mechanism to stop its motion, and a structure for holding things. It is a yet further object of the present invention to provide a wheel chair which can be alternatively adjusted according to requirements.
An embodiment of the present invention will nou be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drauings in which: Fig. 1 illustrates the preferred embodiment of the present invention; Fig. 2 illustrates the preferred embodiment in a collapsed condition; Fig. 3 illustrates the preferred embodiment of the present invention used as a chair to sit; and Fig. 4 illustrates the preferred embodiment of the present invention used as a support in walking by an invalid person.
Referring to the various drawings attached herewith, a detailed description of the structural features of "a multipurpose hand-card" of the present invention is as follows: Turning now to the annexed drawings in greater detail and referring first to Fig. 1, therein illustrated is a wheel chair embodying the present invention, which generally comprises a body having mounted thereon a pair of brake control levers 17 and a hand brake 18 for stopping the motion of the wheel chair, a transparent tray 19 at the top for holding articles, and a basket 20 at the front for keeping articles. The body of the hand-cart is generally comprised of a pair of handlebars 11, a pair of stems 12, a front frame 13, a pair of rear frames 14, a pair of front wheels 15 and a pair of rear wheels 16. (the body of the wheel chair has a symmetrical structure, however, the annexed drawings illustrate only the structure viewed from one side). The rear frames 13 are respectively connected to the front frame 14 by a foldable connection 21 each. The front frame 13 has a substantially U-shaped configuration with a seat 26 transversely fastened therein at a suitable position. The two stems 12 are respectively slidably fastened in the front frame 13 at two opposite sides at the top and respectively controlled by an adjusting knob 22 each to set at a desired level. There is provided a cross bar (not shown) inserted through a fixed frame 23 at the back of the front frame 13 and connected between the two rear frames 14 at an upper end, i.e. the cross bar is confined within the fixed frame 23 to secure the top end of the rear frames 14 to the front frame 13.
Referring to Fig. 1 again, the two opposite bottom ends of the front frame 13 are respectively attached with a swiveled frame 24 each for holding the front wheels 15, and the rear frames 14 have each a fixed, U-shaped wheel holder 25 fixedly attached thereto at the bottom for holding the rear wheels 16.
Referring to Fig. 2, when the two foldable connections 21 are folded up, the cross bar of the two rear frames 14 is moved upward within the fixed frame 23 permitting the two rear frames 14 to respectively move toward the front frame 13. Therefore, the hand-cart can be conveniently folded into a collapsed condition as shown in Fig. 2, so as to minimize space occupation.
Inside the U-shaped wheel holders 25 of the two rear frames 14, there is fastened a brake caliper assembly each and respectively connected by a cable through the rear frames 14 to the hand brake 18 which is mounted on the front frame 13 at a suitable position, and the two brake control levers 17 which are respectively secured to the two handlebars 11. While steering, the two rear wheels 16 can be stopped by pulling up the two brake control levers 17.
When the hand brake 18 is pulled to a braking position, the wheel chair becomes constantly stopped so that it can be used as a standing chair and an user can sit on the seat 26 as shown in Fig. 3.
Before use, the transparent tray 19 or the basket 20 can be attached to or removed from the wheel chair according to one's desire. When not in use, the handcart can be collapsed so as to minimize space occupation.
