Abstract
The current limiting safety switch has current passing from one terminal (13) via a fixed contact to a movable contact (10) through a material which expands on heating (4). On excessive flow, the expansion of the material (4) lifts the stud (9) against the force of spring (16) so separating the contacts (14, 15) which complete the circuit to the output terminal (B) the contacts latching open by the action of the latch (17). The plunger (9) also controls a shunt circuit via a short-circuiting switch (11) making contact with the body (1) of the switch which is in connection with the input terminal (A). This prevents damage to the switch by the overload current passing after the separation of the contacts until final cutoff on the zero transition of the AC power.
