Abstract

Prodn. is controlled using a process model which is continuously modified by input data on the CO2/(CO+CO2) ratio at the mouth of the converter, as calcd. from the measured gas compsn. in the off-gas line. The temp. of the steel in the converter is adjusted on the basis of these data. The steel temp. can be adjusted by vertical adjustment of the oxygen lance and/or by adding metered amts. of coolant, e.g. iron scrap. The process can be combined with conventional measurement of the carbon content of the melt by measuring the decarbonisation rate at the end of the blast process, and/or with conventional temp. measurement during or immediately after the blast by means of a vertical measuring lance.
