Abstract

In the prodn. of NP fertilisers contg. ammonium sulphate, nitrate and phosphate by neutralising an H&PO4-contg. mixt. with ammonia, evaporating the mixt. and granulating the resulting melt, the required ammonium sulphate content in the end product is obtained by adding (NH4)2SO4 both to the mixt. before forming the melt and to the melt before granulation. By adding part of the (NH4)2SO4 after melt formation, the crystn. temp. of the melt is lowered (so that evapn. can be carried out at lower temps.) and CaSO4 pptn. (due to Ca2+ ions in the raw materials) is suppressed. The amt. of (NH4)2SO4 added before melt formation is pref. 20-60 wt.% of the total amt. of (NH4)2SO4 added. It is pref. added in the form of an aq. soln., e.g. so obtained in caprolactam prodn.
