Procedure and apparatus for the preparation of ammonium polyphosphates, by mixing two fluid streams, one of which consists of ammonia and the other of phosphoric acid; the process being characterized in that: the fluid phosphoric acid is at a temperature between 90 and 125ºC and has a concentration of P2O5 between 58 and 65%; the phosphoric acid stream is injected into the axis of the ammonia stream; the amount of ammonia used is in excess by approximately 15% with respect to the stoichiometry of the reaction that leads to obtaining monoammonium phosphates; the velocity of the gaseous ammonia stream at the height at which the injection of phosphoric acid is carried out is between 50 and 200 m/s; and the average velocity of the gas stream in the reaction chamber is approximately 170 m/s.
