Abstract

Foundry cores comprising a soluble salt (I) and a synthetic resin binder (II). The cores are removed from metal castings by pouring over them a liquid which dissolves the soluble part and washes away the insoluble part. (II) is pref. liquid and holds the salt granules in the mass. (II) is pref. urea-, phenol- and/or melamine-formaldehyde resin and/or urea-or phenolfuryl resin and/or resin based on a sugar and/or glucose. An accelerator for converting the resin into a hardened preform may be present. (I) is water-soluble and comprises granular or crystalline chloride, sulphate and/or carbonate. Amount of (II) is 5% wt. of (I). A prefd. core comprises NaCl as base a phenol-furan resin and a catalyst for the resin.
