1329295 Foundry mould composition HUTH & RICHTER CHEMISCHE FABRIK KG 19 Nov 1970 55032/70 Heading C3N A process for the production of casting cores and moulds with the use of an inert base material, an acid-hardenable resin and an aromatic sulphonic acid or a mixture of aromatic sulphonic acids, which optionally contains an inorganic acid, the moulding material mixture being obtained by successively or simultaneously mixing all of the moulding mixture components or by first producing a partial mixture, which can be stored for a certain period of time, to which, at a later point of time, the missing component is then added, wherein to the inert base material or to the mixture of a base material with the resin, there is added an aromatic sulphonic acid with a water content which is between that of the anhydrous acid and of its monohydrate or a mixture of aromatic sulphonic acids, the water present therein being insufficient to provide monohydrated species of all the aromatic sulphonic acids. The base material may be quartz sand and the resin a phenolformaldehyde resin. In the specific example there is used p-toluene sulphonic acid with a water content of 0À1% by weight.
