Abstract

Castings are produced after treatment of the melt with a magnesium or similar compound by pouring the melt into a mould whilst adding a graphitisation material. In a casting tap is placed a holder made of core sand which contains an active quantity of graphitisation medium. The holder is permeable to molten iron in one direction but impermeable to solid graphitisation material. The molten iron is then poured through the runner stick into the mould.
