Abstract

The welding surfaces are pressed against each other and heated to a bonding temp. which is lower than the softening point of the glass and which is between the temp. at which the vapour pressure of the metal equals 10-10 Torr. and the melting point of the metal. Specif. the bonding temp. is up to 0.9 of the metal's melting point, in degrees C. The pressure applied is pref. between 5 and 150 kg/cm2, and when the welding surface is a metal which is not free of oxide, a pressure of at least 50 kg/cm2 is applied.
