Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a metal-glass seal bonded portion of high mechanical strength by previously coating a metal such as Cu, Ag, Au or Pt onto a surface of a Fe and Ni-base metal plate for glass seal bonding in the vicinity of a glass fusion bonding portion.
CONSTITUTION: Prior to glass fusion bonding work a metal plate for glass seal bonding used in manufacture of an electron tube case, etc., e.g. Fe-Ni-Co type Kovar ring 1 is heat treated at about 1000°C or above for about 10min or more in a hydrogen atmosphere or the like. Ring 1 is then plated 4 with about 10μm thick Cu, heat treated at 800°C for about 10min in a hydrogen atmosphere to enhance the adherence between the Kovar and the Cu, and fusion bonded to the end of glass tube 2. Thus, a seal bonded portion of high mechanical strength is obtd. Ag, Au or Pt may be used in place of the Cu to give a similar effect.
