Abstract
976,847. Charging apparatus for batteries; two-part couplings. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 25, 1963 [Sept. 28, 1962], No. 37736/63. Headings H2E and H2H. Small button-type batteries 11 are charged from a mains supply by placing them in recesses 9 in an insulating housing 1, the housing being provided with pins 7 insertable into a mains supply socket outlet, the housing also being provided with a slidable lid 21 so arranged that the batteries 11 are covered when the pins 7 are inserted into a socket thus preventing accidental contact with the batteries during charging. The charging circuit includes a rectifier 15 and a resistor 17 and the lid 21 is provided with a spring 25 which normally keeps the lid 21 in the " batteries covered " position, a projection 31 on the lid then being pushed between contacts 13<SP>1</SP> to ensure that the batteries are firmly connected in the charging circuit. The recesses 9 are shaped to ensure that the batteries are inserted into the charging circuit with the correct polarity.
