Abstract

1419828 Battery operated apparatus INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 28 Feb 1973 [29 Feb 1972] 9708/73 Heading H2H Electrical apparatus, such as a portable tape cassette recorder which can be energized from an electricity mains supply unit or a battery comprises a battery compartment 1 which is provided with terminals to accommodate either a rechargeable battery 13 (Fig. 2) or a non- rechargeable battery 3-7 (Fig. 1) the wall of the battery compartment being provided with contacts connected to the circuitry of the apparatus and disposed so as to engage terminals on a battery charging and voltage stabilizing unit 15 which is housed in the compartment 1 when a rechargeable battery 13 is accommodated therein. Thus the apparatus may be energized either from the mains supply unit or a battery whichever type of battery is accommodated in the battery compartment. Means are provided to ensure that the unit 15 cannot be connected with incorrect polarity.
