Abstract
866,188. Supporting portable electric lamps. LAURENT, J. J. July 4, 1957 [July 11, 1956; May 6, 1957; May 7, 1957], No. 21205/57. Class 75(3). [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVI] .A portable electric apparatus, such as a pocket lamp, dry shaver, fan, &c., consists of a housing formed of two parts, one of which contains an accumulator and the other the device to be energised thereby together with a controlling switch, a recharging device being housed in the first part and permanently connected to the accumulator, two pairs of electrical connecting means being provided on the surface of the first part for connection with corresponding electrical connection means in the second part, one pair being adapted to connect the first part to any suitable external 'source of supply when the second part is removed and the other pair providing an electric connection to the electric appliance when the two parts are fitted together. In the form shown, applied to a pocket lamp, the lamp portion 12 has a lamp 29 with reflector 30 and protective cover 31, one terminal of the lamp, being connected to a-contact pin 32 and the other to a contact pin 34 through a switch 37. The pins 32, 34 engage in sockets 15, 16 on the portion containing the accumulator and connected to the terminals thereof. The accumulator portion also carries, contact pins 23, 24 for the recharging circuit, which engage in blind sockets 35, 36 in the lamp portion. The recharging circuit of the accumulator 14, Fig. 4, consists of rectifier cells 17, 18, 19, 20, a condenser 25 and resistance 26. A magnet 42, Fig. 8, and a magnetic plate 43 may be mounted one on the lamp holding portion and one on the accumulator portion by which the lamp when assembled may be held on a metallic surface, e.g. the body of a motor car, and by which the parts may be held in contact with one another when they are not plugged into one another. The cover 31 consists of a threaded ring and a separate lens element so that the latter may be replaced by a lens element of a different colour if desired.
